We’re seeking a talented Junior Sous Chef to join our dynamic Kitchen Leadership Team, supporting the delivery of exceptional food experiences across our weddings, conferences, events, and catering operations.
In this role you will:
- Support the delivery of high-quality banquet, conference, and catering menus across a diverse range of events and guest experiences.
- Assist in leading and developing the kitchen team to deliver consistent, efficient, and high-standard service during busy event periods.
- Collaborate with the wider Q Station team to ensure seamless event execution and memorable dining experiences for our guests.
The Opportunity
Working alongside some of the most creative and respected names in hospitality, the Junior Sous Chef role forms part of our Kitchen Leadership Team, supporting the delivery of outstanding culinary experiences across Q Station’s diverse events and catering operations.
Reporting to and working closely with the Sous Chef and wider Kitchen Leadership Team, this role is ideal for an experienced Chef looking to further develop their leadership capability while contributing their culinary expertise, creativity and passion to a unique hotel environment.
You will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of weddings, conferences, functions and catering services, ensuring our guests experience the quality, consistency and service excellence Q Station is known for.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present high-quality buffet, banquet, conference and function menu items, ensuring exceptional standards of quality, presentation and guest satisfaction.
- Support the Sous Chef and Kitchen Leadership Team with the coordination of daily banquet and catering operations.
- Provide guidance, support, and direction to kitchen team members during preparation and service periods.
- Assist with the delegation of duties and responsibilities to ensure service requirements are met.
- Support the training and development of kitchen team members to maximise service levels, efficiencies, and consistency.
- Assist with menu preparation, recipe execution, and the introduction of new food concepts across banquet and catering operations.
- Monitor food quality and presentation standards throughout preparation and service.
- Support effective stock management, ordering processes, inventory control, and food cost management.
- Minimise food wastage through effective preparation, storage, and utilisation practices.
- Ensure compliance with HACCP requirements and Q Station food safety, hygiene, and operational standards.
- Liaise with front-of-house teams regarding event requirements, service timings, dietary requirements, special requests and any changes.
- Contribute ideas and culinary creativity to continuously improve our guest experience and kitchen operations.
Essential Criteria:
- Formal qualification in Commercial Cookery (Certificate III or above).
- Proven experience as a Chef de Partie, Junior Sous Chef, or similar leadership role within a high-volume hotel or catering environment.
- Demonstrated experience in banquets, functions, conferences, or large-scale catering operations.
- Proven ability to support, motivate, and develop kitchen team members.
- Passion for creating exceptional food experiences with strong attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of culinary standards, food presentation, and service delivery.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse teams.
- Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills, particularly during high-pressure service periods.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and operational demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of stock management, cost contro,l and food safety requirements.
- Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willing to obtain one).
- Current Australian driver's licence.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
