About the Role
As a member of the icare Insurance for NSW claim team you will oversee a portfolio of complex and high value property claims. We are looking for experienced candidates with a strong technical background in first party property claims. You will use your significant experience to drive strategy and balance the needs of the Treasury Managed Fund and the NSW Government Agencies. You will proactively resolve claims and operate in a fiscally responsible manner to ensure the sustainability of the fund.
You will maintain clear oversight of the key performance drivers and focus on improving claims outcomes to deliver a strongly customer centric experience. You will play a key role in supporting icare’s transformation of its General Lines claims framework and its ongoing focus to uplift claims performance.

Duties
It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same. As Technical Claims Manager, Property and Construction, you will:
Strategy and Planning
- Support the development and delivery of claims strategies that achieve business objectives and improve customer outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen claims performance, manage risk and deliver sustainable financial outcomes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance claims processes, frameworks and capability.
Claims leadership
- Manage a portfolio of complex and high value property and construction claims, ensuring timely, fair and consistent outcomes.
- Partner with legal service providers and internal stakeholders to identify risks and implement effective claims resolution strategies.
- Monitor claims performance, reserving and compliance to support effective governance and informed decision making.
Stakeholder and Customer Focus
- Build trusted relationships with government agencies, legal partners, underwriting and internal stakeholders to deliver positive customer outcomes.
- Collaborate across Client Engagement, Product and Risk Advisory teams to improve claims performance and respond to emerging risks.
Technical Expertise
- Lead the management of strategically significant property and construction claims, providing technical guidance on complex matters.
- Support quality assurance, peer reviews and continuous improvement to strengthen technical capability and claims excellence.
- Mentor and develop colleagues, sharing your expertise to build capability across the team
Skills & Experience
You’ll bring:
- Demonstrated experience managing complex property and construction claims, including high value and catastrophic losses.
- Strong technical knowledge of property claims, policy interpretation and the insurance claims lifecycle.
- Experience managing complex claims in a multi-product insurance environment.
- Well-developed negotiation, stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make informed decisions in complex situations.
- Experience building collaborative relationships across legal partners, government agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring and developing colleagues to build technical capability.
- A commitment to continuous improvement, quality claims management and customer outcomes.
- Experience with government insurance schemes or State and Federal Government clients will be highly regarded.
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Commerce or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
