The Aboriginal Projects Officer plays a key role in bringing the Balit marra (Strong Mob) Aboriginal Action Plan to life through the development and implementation of impactful projects and strong partnerships. Working closely with Aboriginal community members, organisations and internal stakeholders, this role helps create opportunities, strengthen relationships and support positive outcomes for Aboriginal people across the municipality.

About the role:
In this role you will be responsible for developing, coordinating and delivering initiatives across the Aboriginal portfolio. A key areas of focus will be supporting the design, implementation and evaluation of Balit marra (Strong Mob) Aboriginal Action Plan, while fostering meaningful engagement and strong partnerships with Aboriginal community members, organisations and stakeholders.
You will:
- Collaborate with all positions within the Aboriginal Unit to support the development, implementation, monitoring and review of action and priorities outlined in the Council Plan, including the Balit marra (Strong Mob) Aboriginal Action Plan.
- Develop and maintain effective monitoring, evaluation and reporting tools and frameworks to track progress of actions and action plans, strategic priorities and other relevant Council commitments.
- Design and implement tools, processes and engagement approaches that support ongoing and meaningful consultation with Aboriginal community members and external stakeholders.
- Prepare and contribute to Council briefing papers, policy documents and other documentation to support decision making, accountability and reporting requirements.
- Support the design, coordination and delivery of programs and community engagement activities that align with Council strategic objectives and the agreed unit plans.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, proactively identifying opportunities for collaboration, partnership development and continuous improvements.
- Contribute to culturally safe, inclusive and strengths based approach to Aboriginal community engagement, supporting positive outcomes for Aboriginal people across Darebin.
About you:
We are looking for:
- Relevant experience in policy development and/or qualifications such as social policy, social work or community services.
- Demonstrated Aboriginal cultural awareness and competency.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of working in the Aboriginal sector or social justice portfolio particularly in the context of local government settings.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the Council action plan and other strategic plan development and implementation relevant to this role and unit.
- Relevant experience in stakeholder engagement, including processes for effectively mapping internal and external stakeholders and engagement across a variety of settings.
- Excellent research, project management and evaluation skills, relating to projects and programs.
- Problem-solving capabilities, including the ability to anticipate and manage risks.
