While part of a broader rural network, the base location for this position is negotiable across the New England North West in NENW MHS established bases, offering you the perfect blend of professional impact and an exceptional regional lifestyle. You’ll work alongside committed multidisciplinary teams, deliver care to diverse communities, and enjoy the balance of face-to-face and telehealth services, all from the heart of one of NSW’s most vibrant and welcoming regional centres. The successful applicant will be supported by their Line Manager and Head of Discipline, regular structured clinical supervision and professional development and ongoing education. NENW MHS encourage people commitment of their CPD supporting access to regular internal Inservice programs.
The Opportunity
This newly created role gives you the rare opportunity to shape service design from the ground up, driving innovation, connection, and continuous improvement. As a Senior Clinical Psychologist, you’ll take on an influential dual role that blends advanced clinical practice with meaningful clinical leadership. Partnering closely with Community Managers, Clinical Coordinators and the wider NENW leadership team, you will:

Deliver specialist clinical care and high-level consultation across the region

Act as a trusted escalation point for both clinical and operational matters

Mentor and support clinicians, fostering capability, wellbeing, and professional growth

Champion evidence-based, person-centred care across services

Lead and develop your discipline within the NENW Mental Health Service
About you
An ideal candidate for the Senior Clinical Psychologist role demonstrates advanced clinical expertise alongside strong, visible clinical leadership. They consistently exercise high-level independent judgement in complex cases, contribute to service development and quality improvement, and actively provide supervision, consultation, and guidance to others. They are able to influence multidisciplinary teams, manage competing demands, and maintain a clear focus on patient-centred, evidence-based care. The most crucial attributes are established clinical leadership, independent decision-making in complex environments, and the ability to contribute at a service level. While skills such as broader service development, research involvement, and formal supervision experience can continue to be strengthened on the job, a solid foundation in leadership, clinical confidence, and team influence is essential at entry to the role.
Requirements

Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited postgraduate clinical psychology qualification of no less than two years full time duration or recognised equivalent, displayed on the Psychology Board of Australia website.

Generally registered as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia with area of practice endorsement in clinical psychology, with a higher level knowledge and experience in a mental health
Exercise higher level independent clinical judgement in the provision of client-centered assessment, diagnosis, intervention and consultancy to clients, families/carers and other health care professionals to ensure delivery of innovative clinical practice models and therapeutic techniques.
Evaluate the efficacy of therapy in individual and group situations using appropriate standardised outcome measures and adapt psychological interventions to maximise client outcomes at an individual and service level. This includes providing expert clinical perspective to the MDT to enable the planning and implementation of client-centered clinical activities within the service.
