Join Sutherland Shire Council’s Ocean Lifeguard team this summer and help keep the award-winning Bate Bay beaches safe. As a Seasonal Ocean Lifeguard, you’ll protect thousands of beachgoers, promote water safety, respond to emergencies and contribute to one of NSW’s most respected professional lifeguard services. As a Seasonal Ocean Lifeguard, you'll be responsible for:
Promoting beach and water safety through public education and engagement
Responding quickly and professionally to emergencies and rescue situations
Actively monitoring beach conditions and identifying potential risks
Maintaining and securing lifesaving equipment and facilities
Supporting compliance with state and local beach safety regulations
You'll be passionate about community safety and confident in dynamic beach environments. You bring a calm, professional approach, strong teamwork skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional public service.
To be successful, you'll have:
- PUA30322 Certificate III in Public Safety (Aquatic Search and Rescue), or willingness to obtain within three months of commencing employment
- Current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
- Current HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
- Current NSW Class C Driver Licence
- Current NSW General Boat Driving Licence and Personal Watercraft (PWC) Driving Licence
- Current NSW Working with Children Check clearance for paid employment

- Package and Hours of work:
Seasonal - $81,866 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation. Temporary Full Time (September 2026 - April 2027), 38 hours per week, 9 day fortnight. Available to work over 7 day spread. Weekend penalty rates paid for weekends and public holidays worked
Please note: As selected applicants progress through the recruitment process, a requirement to participate in fitness testing (800m pool swim & ocean lifeguard mission) will take place Saturday 5th September from 8:00 am.
Suitable candidates are subject to pre-employment screening which includes Reference Checks, Work Rights Verification, Identity and Functional/Medical History Checks (including Covid-19 Vaccination), and may also include a Criminal History, Qualification and Working with Children Check. Employment is subject to clearance of all these checks.
