About the Role
We are seeking a reliable, hands-on Yard Hand / Mechanical Assistant to join our bus depot team. This is a dynamic, varied role balancing daily depot duties, basic mechanical maintenance, and local driving tasks.
Alongside keeping our fleet clean and safe, you will occasionally be out on the road picking up parts or moving vehicles to ensure the workshop operates without a hitch.
Key Responsibilities
- Parts Pickup & Driving: Drive a company vehicle to local suppliers to collect mechanical parts, tools, or equipment as needed.
- Basic Mechanical Maintenance: Perform minor servicing tasks such as checking and topping up fluids (oil, coolant, AdBlue), changing light bulbs, replacing wiper blades, and monitoring tyre pressures.
- Inspections & Fault Reporting: Conduct routine pre-start checks, identify basic vehicle issues, and report faults to the workshop team.
- Fleet Movements & Detailing: Wash, and park buses securely within the yard, with occasional short-distance vehicle movements as required.
- Depot Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free workshop and yard environment.
What We Are Looking For
- Licence Requirements: A valid Australian Driver’s Licence (as you will be operating company vehicles for parts pickup). An MR or HR licence is highly desirable for moving buses.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and confidence using basic hand tools.
- Safety First Mindset: Strict adherence to road safety and workshop protocols, especially around heavy moving vehicles.
- Reliability: A punctual, trustworthy team player who can work independently while out on runs.
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly rates based on experience
- A highly varied workday—no sitting behind a desk or being stuck in one spot all day.
- Access to company vehicles for all work-related driving and parts runs.
- A stable, local role with a supportive, down-to-earth team.
Pay: $30.00 – $40.00 per hour
