Salary - $75,000 - $85,000 plus superannuation per annum

THE ROLE:
We are seeking a qualified Product Design Engineer to design, develop, test and improve innovative sheet metal fabricated products that meet customer requirements and manufacturing standards. Working closely with engineers, production staff, suppliers and quality teams, you will be responsible for developing practical product designs, preparing technical documentation and supporting manufacturing processes form concept through to production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualise, design and develop sheet metal fabricated products in accordance with relevant engineering principles and industrial standards.
· Prepare detailed 3D product models, engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation using CAD software, with proficiency in SolidWorks preferred.
· Utilise AutoCAD 2D to create flat patterns and production drawings for laser cutting and fabrication processes.
· Review, evaluate and implement engineering design changes, ensuring product modifications are accurately documented and incorporated into production.
· Analyse client requirements, manufacturing capabilities and technical specifications to develop practical, cost-effective product designs.
· Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to source high-quality stainless-steel materials and components for prototype development and production.
· Coordinate prototype fabrication, testing and evaluation to validate product designs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
· Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including engineering drawings, design reports, assembly instructions, bills of materials and material specifications.
· Collaborate with quality assurance personnel to ensure products comply with relevant Australian standards, customer specifications and quality requirements.
· Provide technical support to production and fabrication teams during manufacturing and assembly, troubleshooting engineering issues and implementing design improvements where required.
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance product performance, manufacturing efficient and production processes.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
· Relevant qualification, such as a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, product design engineering, manufacturing engineering or higher (or closely related field).
· Minimum of 3 years (preferably more) relevant experience in product design and development, preferably with sheet metal fabrication or stainless-steel manufacturing.
· Demonstrated proficiency using CAD software, with SolidWorks experience preferred and AutoCAD 2D highly regarded.
· Strong understanding of materials science, sheet metal fabrication processes, manufacturing techniques and relevant industrial standards.
· Experience preparing engineering drawings, technical documentation and manufacturing specifications.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, production and supplier teams.
· Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
· Commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions and continuous improvement.
· You must have unrestricted working rights to work full time in Australia to be eligible for consideration.
WHAT IS ON OFFER:
· A competitive salary of $75,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum, dependent on experience.
