We are seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our full-time kitchen team and support the preparation, organisation and delivery of consistent, high-quality dishes in a busy hospitality
About the Role
Reporting to the Head Chef and management team, the Chef will be responsible for preparing, cooking and presenting dishes to established venue standards while supporting menu planning, food costing, ordering, food safety and kitchen team coordination. The role requires strong technical cooking skills, sound knowledge of commercial kitchen operations and the ability to maintain quality during busy service periods.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Plan, organise and assist with the preparation and cooking of food for a busy dining establishment.
· Prepare, season and cook high-quality Greek and Mediterranean-inspired dishes in accordance with menu specifications, recipes and presentation standards.
· Plan menus and contribute to menu development, including estimating food and labour costs, portion control and seasonal ingredient use.
· Order food supplies, monitor stock levels, check deliveries and support inventory management to maintain efficient kitchen operations.
· Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation to ensure consistency, freshness, flavour and visual appeal.
· Discuss food preparation, service timing, dietary requirements and operational issues with managers, kitchen staff and waiting staff.
· Demonstrate cooking techniques, advise junior staff on cooking procedures and support consistent preparation standards across the kitchen.
· Supervise and train kitchen staff where required, including supporting junior chefs, apprentices and kitchen attendants during preparation and service.
· Explain, apply and enforce food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures, including cleaning, storage, temperature control and allergen awareness.
· Coordinate kitchen workflow during service, maintain section readiness and assist with managing high-pressure service periods.
· Support food cost control, waste reduction and efficient use of ingredients while maintaining quality and presentation standards.
· Freeze, store and preserve food items where required in line with food safety procedures and venue standards.
Selection Criteria
· Relevant commercial cookery qualification, such as Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or an equivalent qualification.
· At least one year of relevant post-qualification experience as a Chef in a restaurant, hotel, premium dining or high-volume hospitality environment.
· Strong technical cooking ability, including preparation, seasoning, cooking, plating and quality control.
· Demonstrated experience with Greek cuisine, Mediterranean cuisine or similar restaurant menus will be highly regarded.
· Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene, allergen management and commercial kitchen compliance requirements.
· Ability to supervise, train and communicate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house staff.
· Ability to work under pressure, maintain consistency and meet service deadlines in a busy kitchen environment.
· Availability to work a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
