Primary objective
Provide administrative and casework support services to children and families who are clients of the Department of Children and
Families.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Collaborate with caseworkers, families, and carers to achieve the goals identified in the case plan.
2. Participate in the provision of access arrangements as directed, including transport, observation, and supervision of access.
3. Assist parents and family members to develop appropriate parenting skills and support networks to facilitate their ongoing
care of their children as identified in the case plan.
4. Document progress toward achieving goals and participate in regular review of goals identified in case plans.
5. Assist the team as required.
6. Under the guidance of a Team Leader manage Family Support and After Care support cases.
7. Prepare accurate reports as required.
8. Participate in the Department’s After-Hours Service and assist in delivering the Department’s statutory welfare group
responses in accordance with the Emergency Management Act.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Knowledge and experience regarding Aboriginal cultural values and perspectives and demonstrated ability to work closely with
Aboriginal children and families in the community.
2. Knowledge of parenting issues including cultural differences in child rearing, child development, different ways to manage
children’s behaviour, hygiene, nutrition, and learning.
3. Good written and oral communication skills and computer literacy.
4. Understanding of the concept of client rights and the ability to show respect for client’s rights.
5. Ability to work as a member of a team and an ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
6. Good organisational skills including the ability to work independently and manage time effectively and ability to maintain
confidentiality.
7. Flexibility with regard to days and hours of work and a willingness to work shift work.
8. A current driver’s licence and preparedness to travel in 4WD vehicles and light planes as required and ability to undertake
travel including overnight stays, as necessary.
Desirable
1. Understanding of the dynamics of child abuse and neglect and of the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007 as the context
for practice.
2. Certificate 3 in Community Services or equivalent.
