Darebin City Council is seeking an experienced Safety & Wellbeing Advisor to join our People & Culture team.
This is an opportunity to use your occupational health and safety expertise to make a genuine impact across Council, providing trusted advice to leaders and employees and contributing to a strong, proactive safety culture.
About the role:
Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing you will:
Provide expert safety advice
Provide practical, accurate OHS advice to leaders and employees, interpreting and applying relevant legislation and safety requirements across Council.
Drive safety improvement and compliance
Support the ongoing development and improvement of Council’s Safety Management System
Analyse and provide safety insights
Maintain OHS statistics and trend analysis, preparing meaningful reports, insights and recommendations that support effective decision-making, leadership and governance.
Support incident management and risk reduction
Partner with leaders to undertake incident investigations, identify breaches or potential breaches of legislative requirements, and recommend appropriate corrective and preventative actions
Lead safety initiatives and projects
Contribute to the delivery of safety activities including training, projects, ergonomic assessments, policy development and implementation of new legislation and organisational requirements.
Build strong partnerships
Partner with leaders, managers and teams across Council to promote proactive safety practices, strengthen capability and support a positive safety culture.
About you:
You enjoy being onsite, thriving face to face. You are a people focused OHS professional who combines strong technical knowledge with the ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes across a complex organisation.
You will be confident providing specialist advice, interpreting legislation, analysing safety data and translating your expertise into practical solutions. You will bring sound judgement, strong communication skills and a proactive approach to identifying emerging risks and opportunities for improvement.
You'll also bring:
- Demonstrated experience providing occupational health, safety and wellbeing advice within a multidisciplinary organisation
- Demonstrated experience conducting workplace inspections, incident investigations and incident analysis
- Experience analysing safety and wellbeing data and delivering meaningful insights and recommendations
- Demonstrated experience leading and delivering safety, wellbeing or organisational improvement programs and projects
- Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends and translate insights into practical improvement initiatives
- Highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organisation
