As a STEM Experience Officer, you will play a key role in delivering engaging, hands-on science experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity and lifelong learning for visitors to SparkLab, Queensland Museum's interactive science centre. Working in a dynamic public-facing environment, you will facilitate STEM exhibits, live demonstrations, investigations and learning experiences for diverse audiences, including families, school groups, early learners, community groups and adults.
You will support the day-to-day operation of SparkLab by ensuring exhibits, activities and learning spaces are presented to a high standard and that visitors receive a safe, welcoming and inclusive experience. Using strong science communication skills, you will adapt content and engagement approaches to suit a wide range of ages, learning styles and abilities, making complex scientific concepts accessible, relevant and engaging.
The role involves delivering curriculum-linked programs, supporting school visits, facilitating inquiry-based learning opportunities and encouraging visitors to explore STEM through play, experimentation and discovery. You will contribute to the development, testing and continuous improvement of the experience in SparkLab, ensuring experiences remain innovative, curriculum-linked, audience-focused and aligned with Queensland Museum's strategic objectives.
You will also support operational requirements including exhibit maintenance, equipment preparation, stock management, safety procedures, visitor flow management and the collection of visitor feedback and evaluation data. There may be opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues across Queensland Museum.
Successful applicants will demonstrate excellent communication, customer service and teamwork skills, along with experience in education, science communication, museum engagement or a related field. A passion for STEM education and the ability to foster meaningful connections between visitors and science is essential.
