We are seeking an experienced Accountant (Team Leader) to lead complex client engagements, manage offshore teams, and provide strategic financial and taxation expertise across multiple industries.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional leadership, communication, and practice management skills. You will work closely with partners, clients, and offshore teams to deliver accounting, taxation, compliance, and business advisory services while helping drive operational excellence across the firm.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Compliance
- Prepare financial statements for directors, management, shareholders, governing bodies, and statutory authorities.
- Ensure the accuracy and compliance of financial reports with Australian accounting and taxation regulations.
- Prepare taxation returns for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships, and other entities.
- Prepare SMSF financial statements, member statements, annual returns, and supporting workpapers.
- Assist with SMSF compliance obligations, including investment transactions, contributions, pension payments, and regulatory reporting.
- Proficient in all Xero functions, including software integration such as Deputy and Hubdoc.
- Management of tax affairs for legal professional, including Trust accounting reconciliations, debtors reconciliations, disbursements reconciliation.
- Management of tax affairs in building industry, including preparation of Home Owner Warranty reporting that meets AASB regulatory provisions.
- Management of tax affairs for International clients, including preparation of international dealing schedule.
- Proficient in Legal and Accounting software integrations, in particular Leap and Action Step Legal Software and XERO.
Industry-Specific Expertise
- Manage taxation and accounting matters in one or more areas, legal practices, building industry, medical centres, social influencers and childcare with the following key experience
- Trust Accounting;
- Preparation of HOW reporting that meets AASB regulatory provisions;
- Manage taxation affairs for international clients, including preparation of International Dealings Schedules and cross-border reporting requirements.
- Utilise and manage accounting technology platforms including Xero, Leap, Action Steps and Deputy.
Offshore Team Leader
- Develop training manuals and standard operating procedures for junior and senior staff.
- Design and implement workflow systems between onshore and offshore teams.
- Lead, manage, and monitor outsourced teams based (but not limited to) in the Philippines, Vietnam, and India.
- Bridge communication, cultural, and language differences between offshore and Australian teams.
- Assess capability gaps and develop tailored training programs to enhance offshore team performance.
- Deliver training programs to improve understanding of Australian business culture and client expectations.
- Manage firm-wide work-in-progress (WIP), billing, workflow, and productivity processes.
Skills and Experience
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or related discipline.
- CA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification, or currently working towards.
- Minimum 1.5+ years' experience in public practice accounting.
- Strong experience with Australian taxation, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated SMSF accounting and compliance experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Xero and associated software integrations.
- Experience working with legal industry clients and trust accounting.
- Experience managing offshore teams and cross-border workflows.
- Excellent leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Fluent English communication skills are essential. Additional language skills, including (but not limited to) Vietnamese, Mandarin, or Cantonese, will be highly regarded due to the firm's multicultural client base.
- Ability to work effectively with Australian and Southeast Asian clients and offshore teams
- Experience working with offshore teams or international business operations will be highly regarded.
