Primary objective
Provide high quality, culturally sensitive nursing/midwifery care to clients to achieve best patient outcomes.
Context statement
Nursing and midwifery in the Northern Territory offers unique and exciting challenges for Enrolled Nurses (EN) with a
minimum 12 months experience post completion of qualification across multiple clinical areas offering adaptable models of
care and flexible workplace arrangements.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Works within enrolled nurse scope of practice under the direct/indirect supervision of the registered nurse (RN).
2. Practices in accordance with relevant legislation, procedures, guidelines, and standards, seeking clarification and support
from the RN as required, to provide optimal clinical care to patients.
3. Works collaboratively and acts as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team.
4. Delivers care and administers medication within the role boundaries and legal limitations of enrolled nurse practice.
5. Demonstrate NTH values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and
colleagues.
6. Follows defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the
work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through role modelling appropriate behaviour.
8. Ability to work shift work and be redeployed to other clinical areas to meet clinical needs.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
2. Demonstrated understanding and ability to co-ordinate care, under the supervision of the RN, to optimise client
outcomes.
3. Demonstrated written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to contribute effectively within the
multidisciplinary team.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence provision of
health care for clients and families.
5. Knowledge and application of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles in a health care setting.
Desirable
1. Completion of an approved NMBA course in administration and monitoring of medicines and intravenous therapy.
