The Opportunity
The Senior Spatial Analyst will support land use assessments and spatial decision-making by undertaking a broad range of GIS tasks including cartography, data management, analysis and insights, database management, and reporting. The role actively supports Victoria's energy transition through the application of spatial data analysis techniques and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) skills to facilitate the delivery of VicGrid's planning outcomes.
The role will require the application of experience in geospatial modelling to deliver spatial analysis and decision support tools and contribute to the succesful delivery of VicGrid's transmission and renewable energy zone (REZ) planning functions. The role will ideally suit a GIS professional that works effectively within multi-disciplinary teams, with a matured ability to think laterally and creatively to deliver high quality outcomes. What you will deliver
- Support VicGrid's land use assessments through the design and implementation of spatial multi-criteria analysis modelling for assessing land use constraints and opportunities.
- Develop internal and external facing GIS analysis and mapping products using up-to-date and accurate spatial information with credible and reliable results aligned to business needs.
- Effectively manage spatial datasets through best practice data governance and data management principles and systems.
- Develop and provide authoritative, accurate advice and documentation on spatial analysis methods, products and insights, using clear and consistent formats with reporting aligned to different audiences.
- Initiate, build, and manage confident and collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver project outcomes and build support for key initiatives.
- Support the identification and management of emerging, complex, or highly sensitive issues, risks and trends impacting on the successful achievement of program objectives and priorities.
What you will bring
- Experience operating as a GIS professional in a multi-disciplinary teams on a major project.
- Qualifications in an appropriate scientific field such as environmental science, ecological science, forest science, environmental planning, planning, applied sciences (GIS, Remote Sensing) or natural resource management.
- Demonstrated experience implementing ESRI GIS products (ArcPro/ArcGIS Enterprise/ArcGIS Online), FME Flow, Microsoft SQL Server, spatial modelling, data analysis and insights (PowerApps/PowerBI).
- Experience developing and implementing programming languages such as Python and R will be highly regarded.
- Experience working within Government or government agencies and/or the energy sector is not essential but will be highly regarded.
