We are seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager / Senior Project Manager (Clinical Trials) to lead the operational delivery of the GIFT Trial, a large-scale, multi-centre clinical trial investigating the health and economic impact of donor human milk compared with infant formula for preterm infants.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised clinical trial professional to manage complex research activities, collaborate with leading clinicians and researchers, and contribute to research with the potential to improve outcomes for women, infants and families across Australia.
Reporting to the Theme Leader, SAHMRI Women and Kids, you will lead the day-to-day management and operational delivery of the GIFT Trial, ensuring delivery to the highest standards of quality, compliance and participant care.
Working closely with the Trial Leadership Team, participating hospitals and external stakeholders, you will drive recruitment, site engagement, governance, project delivery and financial management while ensuring adherence to ICH-GCP guidelines, ethical requirements and study protocols.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the operational management and implementation of a large multi-centre clinical trial across participating hospitals.
- Coordinate participant recruitment, informed consent, enrolment, follow-up and retention activities to achieve study targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with investigators, clinicians, study sites and external stakeholders.
- Monitor trial progress, timelines, risks and performance metrics, providing regular reports to leadership and key stakeholders.
- Oversee ethics and governance submissions, amendments and reporting requirements.
- Manage study budgets, expenditure tracking and financial administration.
- Coordinate research contracts, Clinical Trial Research Agreements (CTRAs) and site agreements.
- Support and train site personnel and project staff on trial procedures, systems and study requirements.
- Ensure data quality, protocol compliance and maintenance of inspection-ready trial documentation, governance records and Trial Master Files.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of electronic data capture and clinical trial management systems.
- Provide support to steering committees and working groups, including meeting coordination, minute-taking and follow-up of action items.
- Contribute to presentations, publications, grant applications and dissemination activities arising from the trial.
About You
You are a proactive, organised and solutions-focused clinical trial professional who thrives in a collaborative research environment. You bring strong project management, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills, combined with a passion for delivering high-quality clinical research that improves outcomes for women, infants and families.
The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:
- A tertiary qualification in health sciences, nursing, public health, clinical research, project management or a related discipline, and/or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex clinical research projects or clinical trials.
- Experience recruiting and managing research participants within a clinical trial or research environment.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and risk management.
- Experience working with ethics, governance and regulatory processes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and build effective working relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience using electronic data capture systems and clinical trial databases.
- Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications and project management systems.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team environment.
Desirable
- Experience coordinating large-scale multi-centre clinical trials.
- Experience working in women's, children's and/or infant health research.
- Current ICH-GCP certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Knowledge of Australian healthcare and hospital systems.
- Experience managing research contracts, site agreements or Clinical Trial Research Agreements (CTRAs).
Special Requirements
- Primarily located at Women's and Children's Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and/or Lyell McEwin Hospital, with some travel required between hospital sites and SAHMRI North Terrace.
- Interstate travel may be required.
- Some out-of-hours work may be required.
- DHS Working With Children Check and National Police Check are required.
- SAHMRI is required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy for SAHMRI employees carrying out work in any SA Health Facility.
- Immunisation Risk for this position is - Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances)
