2027 General Surgery Fellow

About the Role
Applications are invited to apply for a 12-month, full-time (38hrs per week) General Surgery Fellowship commencing February 2027 at Grampians Health Ballarat.
This position offers an outstanding opportunity for a recently qualified surgeon to consolidate and expand their experience across a broad range of elective and emergency general surgery, working within a supportive and progressive regional surgical service.
The Fellow will be an integral member of the Acute Surgical Unit, working alongside 26+ Consultant Surgeons and participating in:
- Elective and emergency general surgery
- Acute Surgical Unit (ASU) and Oncall roster
- Outpatient clinics
- Operating theatre and Endoscopy sessions
- Ward rounds and administrative time as per the demands of the workload
- Trauma and after-hours emergency surgery
- Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff
- Clinical audit, quality improvement and education activities
Sessions can be tailored to align with the successful candidate's clinical interests and career goals.
The successful applicant must hold FRACS/GESA in General Surgery by commencement. Demonstrate excellent clinical and operative skills, and a commitment to patient-centred care, teaching and teamwork.
Skills & Experience
The surgical fellow performs a key role in service provision at the hospital. They are involved in day-to-day management of the acute surgical patients and those patients in their special interest field. This will require management of emergency and elective theatre lists, leading junior team members, involvement in audit, and the provision of surgical education and training to surgical registrars (see position description).
This is a fixed term, full time role. The remuneration is in line with the most recent EBA and includes CME with salary sacrifice options.
