Leyland Civil is a growing civil construction company specialising in commercial and infrastructure projects throughout the Perth metropolitan area. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of upcoming projects, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Drainer to join our team.
This is a full-time position offering long-term employment, diverse project exposure, and the opportunity to grow with a developing company. The successful applicant will work predominantly on projects south of the river and will be involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of stormwater and drainage infrastructure across a range of commercial civil construction projects.
About the Role
The Drainer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of below-ground drainage systems and associated infrastructure. The role requires a strong understanding of drainage principles, the ability to interpret plans and specifications, and experience operating excavation equipment to support drainage installation works.
The successful candidate will work closely with supervisors, machine operators and other site personnel to ensure drainage systems are installed safely, accurately and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Interpret and work from technical drawings, construction plans, specifications and site instructions to determine drainage system requirements and installation methods.
· Set out drainage systems by accurately marking pipe routes, invert levels, locations and alignments in accordance with project plans.
· Install, repair and maintain stormwater drainage systems, drainage cells, pipelines, pits, headwalls, crossover pipes and associated drainage infrastructure.
· Excavate trenches and prepare trench beds to the required depths and grades for pipe installation.
· Ensure correct bedding materials, base preparation and trench conditions are maintained in accordance with project specifications and relevant standards.
· Measure, cut, shape and prepare drainage pipes and fittings to achieve accurate installation and alignment.
· Position, align and join pipes using approved methods, seals, mechanical fittings and connection systems to ensure watertight installations.
· Set, monitor and verify pipe gradients and falls using laser levels, automatic levels and measuring equipment to ensure compliance with design requirements.
· Install reinforced concrete pipes, PVC drainage systems, stormwater tanks, drainage cells and associated structures.
· Conduct testing and inspections of completed drainage systems to verify functionality, flow performance and compliance with specifications.
· Identify drainage faults, defects, blockages or installation issues and carry out repairs or modifications as required.
· Backfill trenches and compact materials to achieve specified standards and maintain site stability.
· Restore work areas to a safe and serviceable condition following completion of drainage works.
· Perform routine maintenance and inspections of drainage infrastructure where required.
· Maintain accurate records of completed works, inspections and testing activities.
· Operate excavators and other plant and equipment, including loaders and posi-tracks, to support drainage installation activities.
· Operate company trucks for the transportation of materials, equipment and spoil where required.
· Assist with loading and unloading materials and general site duties as required.
· Comply with all workplace health and safety policies, procedures and environmental requirements.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
· Minimum 2 years' experience working as a Drainer within the civil construction, infrastructure or commercial construction sectors.
· Demonstrated experience installing stormwater drainage systems, pipelines, pits, tanks, drainage cells and associated infrastructure.
· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, drainage plans and technical specifications.
· Experience setting out drainage works and establishing levels from plans.
· Competency in the use of laser levels and other surveying and measuring equipment.
· Proven ability to establish and maintain pipe grades and alignments accurately.
· Experience operating excavators for trenching and drainage installation works.
· Excavator High Risk Work Licence (C2) or equivalent plant operating qualifications.
· HR Driver's Licence highly regarded.
· Strong understanding of safe excavation and trenching practices.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
· Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
· Reliable work ethic and commitment to quality workmanship.
