Opella is seeking a motivated and people‑focused HSE Coordinator to join our friendly Virginia HSE team. Reporting to the M&S Site HSE Lead, you’ll work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Health & Safety Reps (HSRs), and departments across the site to strengthen our mature, proactive safety culture and support continuous improvement in health, safety, environmental protection and hygiene.
This is a hands‑on role where your enthusiasm for workplace safety and environmental stewardship will make a real impact.

What You’ll Do
- Champion an exceptional safety culture and help build organisational capability.
- Support the development and implementation of HSE policies and programs, offering practical recommendations for improvement.
- Participate in risk assessments, gap analyses and action plans across people, processes, materials and equipment.
- Coordinate and deliver training to educate and coach employees and contractors on HSE standards, policies and major risks.
- Engage with Managers, HSRs and employees during inspections, audits, safety visits, hazard assessments and incident investigations.
- Contribute to waste‑disposal improvements and energy‑reduction strategies.
- Review Work Instructions and SOPs to ensure risk assessments are completed and aligned with Opella standards.
- Attend and coordinate Area Safety Meetings with Managers and HSRs.
- Assist with emergency response planning and preparedness.
- Support occupational health and hygiene programs for employees.
- Ensure timely reporting of safety and environmental statistics.
- Maintain HSE systems both locally and within Opella’s digital platform, Connect.
- Support Rehabilitation and Return to Work processes.
- Maintain chemical‑handling management systems and ensure compliance.
About You
You bring a genuine passion for HSE, paired with an energetic, proactive approach to improving workplace safety and environmental performance.
Experience
- Knowledge of WHS legislation and HSE systems.
- Beneficial experience in: manufacturing, packaging, warehousing, engineering, chemical handling, environmental programs, documentation, training, auditing, hazardous areas, rehabilitation & return‑to‑work, or fire safety.
- Soft Skills
- Adaptable, empathetic, detail‑focused, strong communicator, proactive in identifying risks and improvement opportunities, and committed to continuous learning.
Technical Skills
- Strong researching ability, analytical thinking, problem‑solving, decision‑making and written communication.
Education
- Cert IV in HSE or relevant industry technical qualification.
