We are looking for someone who is passionate about specialty coffee, enjoys developing a team, and takes pride in creating exceptional customer experiences. This is a hands-on leadership position with genuine opportunities to grow your coffee knowledge and become more involved in other areas of the Darkstar Coffee business.
About the Role
As our Café Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the café and help maintain a positive, professional, and welcoming environment for both customers and staff.
You will work closely with our management, roasting, training, and technical teams to ensure the café operates efficiently while consistently maintaining high standards of coffee, service, cleanliness, and presentation.
This is not simply an administrative management position. You will be actively involved on the café floor, leading by example, supporting the team during service, and helping create an engaging specialty coffee experience for our customers.

- Maintaining high standards of espresso preparation, milk texturing, filter coffee, and customer service.
- Monitoring coffee quality and ensuring recipes are followed consistently.
- Dialling in espresso and helping the team understand extraction, flavour, and recipe adjustments.
- Ordering and managing café stock, food, packaging, supplies, and inventory.
- Monitoring wastage, stock levels, and operational costs.
- Ensuring the café is clean, organised, and presented to a consistently high standard.
- Maintaining food safety, workplace health and safety, and cleaning procedures.
- Handling customer feedback professionally and resolving issues when required.
- Working with the management team to improve café systems, workflows, sales, and overall performance.
- Helping create a positive workplace culture where staff feel supported and motivated.

Depending on your interests and experience, you may have the opportunity to participate in:
- Regular coffee cupping and quality-control sessions.

- Working with rotating single-origin espresso offerings.

- Learning more about green coffee, processing methods, roasting, and flavour development.
- Espresso recipe development and coffee dial-in procedures.
- Internal barista training and coffee education.
- Customer coffee tastings, workshops, and special events.
- Supporting home coffee machine demonstrations and customer education.
- Assisting with the development of café menus, seasonal drinks, and coffee experiences.
- Growing into broader roles involving training, operations, wholesale support, events, or coffee quality.
