About the role
We’re looking for several positions of Chef and Cook for our restaurant in Melbourne, VIC. We need someone who has some prior experience in preparing Indian Delicacies. Some of the day-to-day responsibilities of the staff member would be:
Duties of Chef –
- Prepare and cook full course meals
- Plan Menus and estimate the food and labour costs in consultation with Business Owners.
- Schedule and supervise kitchen helpers
- Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices.
- Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerance, estimate food requirements and costs
- Monitor all operating costs and take corrective actions when necessary to reduce expenses.
- Requisition food, kitchen supplies and equipment
- Train and implement programs to ensure high standards of cleanliness within the kitchen and outlets.
- Maintain clean and tidy work environment, observing council regulations for food handling and storage at all times
- Use safe manual handling techniques at all times and take a consultative role to assist in achieving a healthy and safe working environment.
- Season and cook food according recipes or personal judgement and experience.
- Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters.
- Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and clearly both in written form and through representations.
- Self motivated and able to take responsibility.
- Able to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to daily tasks.
- Excellent organisational skills
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
Skills and experience -
Experienced trade certificate qualified Chefs with at least one year of relevant work experience
Duties of Cook –
- Cooks prepare, season and cook food in the kitchen.
- Preparing and cooking food, seasoning and portioning dishes as per the Menu of the Aangan restaurant.
- Preparing ingredients as per the Chef instructions and requirement on a daily basis
- examining food to ensure quality
- seasoning food during cooking
- portioning food, placing it on plates, and adding gravies, sauces and garnishes
- storing food in temperature controlled facilities to ensure ingredients are stored appropriately
- preparing food to meet special dietary requirements as per customer request
- will be required to assist the chef with menus and estimate food requirements
- will be required to train any junior staff and monitor the kitchen hand as required
Required Skills –
The candidate holds a relevant qualification.
Minimum one years work experience in a busy restaurant
Knowledge of ingredients and recipes
Ability to perform duties without supervision.
Be able to work in busy environment and ability to develop new menus.
