This position is a 2-year fixed-term hire to provide dedicated onsite support for a new project within the Grid Solutions Team in Australia.
The role is critical for ensuring all project activities in Australia adhere to stringent environmental, health, and safety standards and mitigate operational risks.
To achieve these objectives, the position focuses on three core areas: i) proactive EHS program management, ii) rigorous onsite hazard identification and risk control, and iii) comprehensive compliance monitoring and reporting.
This structure ensures a holistic approach to creating and maintaining a safe work environment throughout the project lifecycle.
Given the focus on expert-level safety oversight, the ideal candidate will be a Specialist Professional with extensive experience in EHS engineering within a project-based context.
Essential requirements include advanced knowledge of Australian safety standards, risk analysis, and the ability to manage complex safety processes with a high degree of autonomy.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- 50% Onsite Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment & Control
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards related to mechanical, electrical, and environmental systems.
- Lead the development and implementation of Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and formal risk assessments for all high-risk project activities.
- Design and verify the effectiveness of engineering and administrative controls to mitigate identified workplace hazards, including fall protection, ergonomics, and substance handling.
- Manage the investigation process for all incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement robust corrective and preventive actions.
- 30% EHS Program Management & Implementation
- Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific EHS management plans and programs in alignment with corporate policies and Australian regulations.
- Lead the deployment of safety initiatives, toolbox talks, and emergency response procedures for all onsite personnel and contractors.
- Coach, review, and delegate work to project team members on EHS standards, safe work procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
- Manage EHS-related procurement and contractor pre-qualification processes to ensure compliance with project standards.
- 20% Compliance, Monitoring & Reporting
- Ensure all onsite activities strictly comply with Australian federal and state WHS/EHS legislation, safety standards, and client requirements.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit all required EHS records, including safety audit reports, incident data, training logs, and compliance documentation.
- Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for regulatory agencies, clients, and internal stakeholders, providing regular performance reports and data analysis.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically 8+ years of progressive experience in an EHS advisory or engineering role, preferably within the energy, construction, or heavy industry sectors.
- Proven experience as a subject matter expert managing complex EHS processes on large-scale projects with limited oversight.
- Driving license Class C (Car)
- Full working rights (valid visa) for Australia
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
