Primary objective
As part of a team, you will be utilising your expertise to conduct timely assessments of child protection notifications and
incoming requests to the Central Intake Team to determine the most suitable service response to be delivered to children
and families in need, in accordance with legislative and policy guidelines.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Responsible for the assessment of incoming child protection notifications and requests for support received within the
Central Intake Team through gathering and synthesising information and analysis to determine appropriate supports and
interventions.
2. Maintain a high level of client service through the provision of professional expertise and demonstrated best practice in
delivery of statutory welfare services.
3. Exercise delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007 in accordance with departmental policies and
procedures.
4. Undertake assessments of child safety.
5. Ensure the availability of reliable data through the accurate and timely recording of information on the Department’s
client information and case management systems.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. In the order of five years relevant human services experience in child protection and/or domestic and family violence.
2. Extensive experience commensurate with the duties of the position, including highly developed skills in conducting safety
and strength-based assessments, developing effective interventions, and demonstrated capacity to apply best practice
principles.
3. Significant experience working within a legislative framework and a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex
legislation.
4. Highly developed ability to work effectively, including managing multiple tasks and ability to deliver quality, timely
outputs.
5. Highly developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to develop and deliver formal and
informal training for staff and the preparation of court reports.
6. Highly developed ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, including a demonstrated knowledge
and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures.
7. High level organisational skills including the ability to work independently manage time effectively and contribute to the
professional development and learning needs of colleagues.
8. Highly developed skills in the use of computers and an ability and willingness to undertake training in the program’s
computer-based data entry system.
Desirable
1. Current Northern Territory driver’s licence or the ability to obtain.
