As part of an exciting evolution in the Planning Directorate, our Development Services department have introduced six new Manager roles to strengthen leadership and support our growing community. These senior leadership positions offer the opportunity to shape how we work, influence key decisions, and lead high-performing teams in a forward-thinking environment.
As part of our new leadership structure, reporting to the Manager of Development Services, in the role of Streamlined Assessment Manager, you will lead the design and delivery of a contemporary assessment service model that drives efficient, consistent, and high-quality planning outcomes. You will operate at the forefront of high complex planning matters. You will guide decision-making frameworks, optimising development assessment pathways, and ensuring compliance with statutory and policy requirements.
This is a role for a confident leader who thrives in complexity, can navigate sensitive and high-impact decisions, and is passionate about building capability within a technically strong workforce.
Key responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership – Set the vision and direction for a high-performing assessment function, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation
Planning Directorate Leadership - Contribute to the establishment and modelling of a positive, values based culture as a key member of the Directorate leadership cohort supporting cross directorate priorities and outcomes
Complex Decision-Making – Lead high-stakes development matters, exercising sound judgement across sensitive, and high-profile applications
Operational Transformation – Drive streamlined, contemporary assessment practices that enhance efficiency, consistency, and customer experience
Stakeholder Influence – Act as a trusted advisor, building strong relationships and representing the organisation across government, industry, and legal forums
Delivery & Capability – Translate strategy into outcomes through aligned teams, while building capability, succession, and a culture of continuous improvement

About you
You are an accomplished planning professional and influential leader with a strong track record of delivering results in complex environments. You bring a strong leadership presence, sound judgement, and the confidence to make decisive calls on high-profile and sensitive matters.
To be successful in this role you will have:
Extensive experience in development assessment within a large, high-growth or complex organisation, local government desirable
Degree in engineering, planning or other related disciplines are essential
Deep knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and infrastructure frameworks
Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing, multidisciplinary teams
Confidence to operate at a senior level, including involvement in legal and high-profile planning matters
Exceptional stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and communication skills
Strong strategic thinking with the ability to balance competing priorities and deliver outcomes
Experience in driving organisational change, innovation, and continuous improvement
Ability to keep abreast of political, economic, industry, employment and social trends and developments
