The Caulker / Joint Sealer is responsible for sealing joints, gaps, and seams across various structures to prevent the penetration of water, air, fire, and pests. This role ensures the structural integrity, thermal efficiency, and aesthetic finish of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
1. Surface Preparation
- Clean, scrape, and grind joints to remove dust, debris, old sealant, and moisture.
- Apply primers and bonding agents to surfaces to ensure maximum sealant adhesion.
- Measure and insert backing rods or bond-breaker tapes to control sealant depth and shape.
2. Sealant Application
- Apply silicone, polyurethane, acrylic, and polysulfide sealants using manual, battery-powered, or pneumatic caulking guns.
- Tool and smooth the applied sealant to achieve a neat, clean, and flush finish.
- Execute internal and external caulking, including expansion joints, window/door frames, wet areas, and brickwork.
3. Remedial & Specialized Work
- Cut out, remove, and replace old or failing mastic and caulking on remedial projects.
- Apply specialized materials such as fire-rated sealants, acoustic sealants, and chemical-resistant jointing.
- Work at heights utilizing scaffolding, scissor lifts, or boom lifts when required.
4. Quality & Safety Compliance
- Ensure all work complies with engineering specifications, architectural blueprints, and building codes.
- Inspect finished work to guarantee it is completely watertight and visually flawless.
- Adhere strictly to site Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies, including correct PPE usage and safe chemical handling (SDS compliance).
