About the Opportunity:
City of Darwin Libraries is seeking a Programs Support Assistant to contribute to the planning, delivery and promotion of engaging library programs, events and outreach activities. As part of the Programs & Engagement team, you will help create welcoming and inclusive library experiences that encourage literacy, creativity, digital confidence and lifelong learning.
Working closely with the Programs Officer and the broader Library & Family Services team, you will assist with program delivery, customer service, community engagement, marketing activities and day-to-day library operations across multiple library locations.
Key Responsibilities

Assist with the planning, coordination and delivery of library programs, services and events.

Support the development of marketing content, including social media posts, website content, posters and flyers.

Provide a positive, proactive and responsive customer service experience.

Engage, support and connect library users with services, resources, programs and activities.

Assist customers with general enquiries and the use of library technology and online resources.

Support customers to use self-service technologies, computers, tablets, mobile devices, social media and eBooks.

Explain library procedures, services and regulations to customers.

Participate in library activities and attend special events as required.

Maintain library collections through shelving, sorting and shelf reading.

Ensure all work is performed in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Handle challenging situations with empathy, professionalism and effective de-escalation skills.

Contribute positively to a collaborative, respectful and supportive team culture.
What You'll Bring

Strong customer service skills and the ability to build positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.

Experience working collaboratively as part of a team.

Confidence using technology and digital tools, including computers, tablets, smartphones, Microsoft Outlook and Teams.

Interest in libraries, community engagement, literacy, digital literacy, programs or events.

Willingness and ability to learn new skills and apply them in program delivery.

Confidence engaging with children, young people, adults and seniors in a learning environment.

Flexibility to work across multiple library locations, including evenings and weekends as part of a roster.

NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).

Current Class C Driver's Licence.
Desirable
-
Previous customer service experience.

Previous experience in a library or similar environment.

Demonstrated interest in programs and marketing.
