About this opportunity:
Mackay Regional Council is seeking a permanent full-time Technical Officer Traffic Operations & Investigations to join our Infrastructure Planning team.
Working under general direction, this role provides technical advice and investigation support across traffic management, transport and infrastructure activities. You will assess customer requests, investigate traffic and road network matters, analyse crash and traffic data, and help deliver practical outcomes for the community.
In this role, you will:
- Assess and respond to traffic complaints, customer enquiries and operational requests.
- Investigate traffic, road network, footpath, road reserve and related infrastructure matters.
- Review temporary road closure requests and support related compliance requirements.
- Analyse crash data, traffic information and operational issues to inform recommendations.
- Use corporate systems, including ECM, to manage correspondence, complaints, tasks and records.
- Liaise with internal teams, contractors, government agencies and community stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Prepare reports, technical advice and correspondence, and assist with stormwater-related complaints when required.
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
To be successful in this role, you will bring sound technical knowledge, strong judgement and the confidence to communicate professionally with customers, community members and stakeholders.
You will have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field, with approximately 3-5 years’ relevant experience; or an Associate Diploma with relevant experience; or substantial relevant experience, generally around 10 years, that demonstrates an equivalent level of expertise without formal qualifications.
- Knowledge of traffic management, road networks, transport infrastructure and relevant legislation, standards and compliance requirements.
- Experience investigating and resolving traffic, operational or infrastructure-related issues, including inspections, assessments and technical recommendations.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data, identify issues and recommend practical solutions.
- Well-developed computer skills, including Microsoft Office products and corporate systems.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and manage difficult customer interactions professionally.
- A positive, adaptable and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Formal qualifications in Traffic Management Implementation or Traffic Management Design will be highly regarded.
