Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) invites applications for the position of Principal Inspector within the Critical Incident Review and Inspections Group, part of the Professional Standards and Governance Command (PSGC). The Professional Standards and Governance Command (PSGC) ensures the community has confidence that QCS as a top tier public safety agency is delivering professional corrective services through a competent and confident workforce supported by strong and ethical leadership.
As Principal Inspector, you will play a pivotal role in investigating critical incidents in correctional facilities and community corrections offices. You will review service delivery and treatment of prisoners, analyse patterns and trends, and assess practices against standards, recommending improvements for safety and professionalism. Your responsibilities include preparing high-quality reports for senior leadership, monitoring intelligence and investigation data, conducting inspections, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. You will also contribute to thematic reviews and participate in working groups and committees.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
High level analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to interpret data to draw conclusions, analyse trends and make recommendations for practice improvements.
Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to formulate reports, documents and correspondence to articulate messages aligned to the intended author.
The ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, and build relationships across diverse teams.
Knowledge or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of relevant legislation (Correctional Services Act 2006, Human Rights Act 2019) and international standards.
Cultural sensitivity and experience in a large, complex government agency, preferably in human services.
Commitment to fostering a culture of integrity and professionalism.
Qualifications in investigations, inspections, evaluation, social sciences, criminology, or law are highly regarded. The role may require occasional travel, work outside normal hours, and exposure to sensitive or traumatic material.
