The Role
Our Mechanical Engineering Technician are hands-on shift leaders performing maintenance, repairs, and routine inspections on our-scooter fleet as well as monitoring the performance of our mechanics. The primary KPIs relate to the productivity of the mechanics (RTG/hour) and inventory accuracy levels. Reporting to the Operations Associate, a Mechanical Engineering Technician also ensures that our warehouse is operating efficiently, safely and in accordance with Neuron’s standard operating procedures. This role best suited for those who enjoy technical challenges, appreciate variety in their work, and are committed to safety and quality. This role also can streamline warehouse and repair processes and spearhead the growth of Neuron by proactively contributing to other launch initiatives in AU and elsewhere. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 4 weekdays plus 1 weekend day however can be flexible for the right candidate.
What you’ll do:
● Inspect, test and assess e-scooters and e-bikes to identify mechanical faults, defects and performance issues.
● Conduct routine servicing, preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety requirements.
● Diagnose mechanical faults, identify root causes and implement appropriate repair and corrective solutions.
● Dismantle, inspect, adjust, repair and replace defective mechanical components and assemblies.
● Conduct functional and safety testing following repairs to ensure vehicles meet required performance standards before deployment.
● Maintain accurate technical and maintenance records, including inspections, faults, repairs, parts replaced and testing outcomes.
● Monitor recurring mechanical faults and recommend improvements to maintenance procedures and vehicle reliability.
● Inspect returned or damaged vehicles and determine appropriate repair or component replacement requirements.
● Provide technical guidance and training to e-scooter mechanics on inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair procedures.
● Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams to ensure serviced vehicles are completed, quality checked and available for deployment.
● Monitor workshop maintenance KPIs and assist with stocktake and inventory management of mechanical parts, tools and equipment.
● Ensure all maintenance activities comply with workplace safety requirements, technical procedures and manufacturer specifications.
What you'll need:
● 1-3 years of experience working with light vehicles (e.g. cars, motor scooters, motorcycles) or electrical systems
● Formal qualifications in Mechanical Engineering Technician preferred
● Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
● Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
● A valid driver's licence
● A suitable personal smart phone is required (generally an Apple or Android device from 2018 or newer)
● A hands-on approach to leadership - our Mechanical Engineering Technician will need to be comfortable “leading by example, “working alongside our mechanics.
● A process-driven mentality, with experience defining best practice warehouse procedures.
● Flexible work schedule with the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed, especially during new location launch periods.
