About the Role
Contract Resources is entering another major year of growth and is seeking experienced and safety-focused Mechanical Fitters to support a major refinery shutdown in Lytton, QLD.
Mechanical Fitters play a critical role during refinery shutdowns and turnarounds, carrying out the inspection, maintenance, repair, and reassembly of mechanical equipment to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of refinery assets. Drawing on your technical expertise and commitment to safety, you will contribute to the successful execution of shutdown activities while working to strict industry and client standards.
This role is ideal for candidates seeking local shutdown opportunities without FIFO travel, allowing you to return home each night. Mobilisation is anticipated between July and August 2026 and will continue through to project completion.
Duties will include but not limited to
- Flange management activities, including bolt-up, torquing and tensioning.
- Heat exchanger maintenance, inspection and tube bundle activities.
- Maintenance and overhaul of pumps, valves, static and rotating equipment.
- Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, P&IDs and work packs.
- Working safely within hazardous refinery environments.
- Supporting multidisciplinary shutdown activities where required.
- Working effectively within a team environment while also being capable of working autonomously.
- Identifying and resolving mechanical issues in a safe and efficient manner.
- Participating in pre-starts, risk assessments, permits and safety documentation.
- Maintaining a strong commitment to Work Health and Safety at all times.
Requirements & Experience Needed
- Relevant Australian Recognised Trade Qualification
- Previous experience working within refinery, oil & gas, petrochemical, mining, resources or heavy industrial environments.
- Ability to work day and night shifts, including weekends
- Current Drivers License (essential)
- National Police Clearance / Valid MSIC (within 12 months - essential)
- Working Safely at Heights certificate (within 2 years - essential)
- Enter & Work in Confined Spaces certificate (within 2 years - essential)
- Gas Test Atmosphere certificate (within 2 years – essential)
- Flange Management Training (advantageous)
- High Risk Work License (advantageous)
- Breathing Apparatus certificate (desirable)
- Construction White Card
