Safety and wellbeing are core priorities for Darebin City Council, and we are committed to fostering a safe, healthy and supportive environment for our workforce.
We’re seeking an experienced and values-driven Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing to lead the continued uplift of safety, wellbeing and injury management outcomes across our occupationally diverse multi-site organisation.
We are fortunate to have a committed and capable Health, Safety & Wellbeing team already in place. This role will build on that strong foundation providing leadership, direction and support to further strengthen performance, culture and outcomes.
Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this is a highly visible leadership role with accountability for safety strategy, WorkCover performance and organisational culture.
About the role
You will:
- Lead and support a multidisciplinary Health, Safety & Wellbeing team
- Drive a proactive, prevention-focused approach to safety and wellbeing
- Take end-to-end accountability for WorkCover performance, claims management and premium outcomes
- Use data and insights to inform decision-making and target improvement initiatives
- Provide trusted, expert advice to the Executive Leadership Team and senior leaders
- Maintain a strong on-site presence, building relationships across diverse work groups
- Lead safety strategy, systems, governance, audit and assurance activities.
About you
To be successful, you will bring:
- Proven experience leading health, safety and wellbeing in a complex, multi-site organisation
- A strong track record of reducing injury rates, claims costs and WorkCover premium
- Demonstrated ability to influence and uplift safety culture and embed leadership accountability
- Strong analytical capability and experience using data to drive performance and outcomes
- Outstanding leadership skills, with a focus on coaching, supporting and developing teams
- The ability to build credibility and influence at all levels from frontline employees to executives
- Strong knowledge of Victorian OHS and WorkCover legislation.

Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification in OHS, HR, public health or related field
- Demonstrated leadership experience in health, safety and wellbeing
- National Police Check and Working with Children Check.
