Job Summary
As a Workplace Relations Advisor, you will provide practical support and guidance across workplace relations, employee relations and industrial relations matters within the business.
Working closely with the Head of Industrial Relations, Human Resources and operational leaders, this role will support the management of workplace matters including performance management, conduct concerns, grievances, workplace complaints, investigations and employment-related documentation.
This role is ideally suited to someone with a foundation in workplace relations, employee relations or HR advisory work who is looking to further develop their technical capability in a fast-paced, operational and unionised environment. You will have the opportunity to learn from experienced leaders, build confidence in managing complex matters, and grow your knowledge of the Fair Work Act, enterprise agreements, modern awards and workplace compliance.
You will play an important role in supporting fair, consistent and compliant people management practices across the business while continuing to develop your skills in workplace relations and industrial relations.
Your Activities
Workplace Relations & Employee Relations Support
Provide advice and support to managers on employee relations and workplace relations matters, including performance management, conduct concerns, disciplinary processes, grievances and workplace complaints.- Support workplace investigations, including assisting with preparation, gathering information, attending interviews and drafting findings or recommendations where required.
- Assist in preparing employment-related documentation, including meeting invitations, allegation letters, show cause letters, warning letters, outcome letters and other correspondence.
- Support managers in managing underperformance, behavioural concerns and workplace conflict in line with company policies and legislative requirements.
- Provide guidance on employment obligations under the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, enterprise agreements, modern awards and company policies.
- Assist with Fair Work Commission matters, industrial disputes and employment-related claims under the guidance of the Head of Industrial Relations.
- Support union-related matters, consultation processes, Right of Entry matters and other industrial relations activities as required.
- Assist with organisational change processes, including consultation, employee communications and related documentation.
Advice, Training & Compliance
- Provide practical advice to managers to support fair and consistent people management practices.
- Assist in coaching leaders on workplace relations processes, including managing conduct, performance and workplace concerns.
- Support the consistent application of workplace policies, procedures and industrial instruments across the business.
- Identify potential workplace relations risks and escalate complex or high-risk matters appropriately.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to workplace relations and employee relations matters.
- Assist with monitoring workplace relations developments and legislative changes.
- Support the review and development of workplace policies, procedures, templates and employment documentation.
Stakeholder Support
- Build effective working relationships with operational leaders, Human Resources, Safety and other key stakeholders.
- Partner with managers to ensure workplace matters are managed fairly, consistently and in accordance with company requirements.
- Escalate complex, sensitive or high-risk matters to the Head of Industrial Relations or relevant senior stakeholders.
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture by supporting practical, respectful and compliant outcomes.
Your Profile
Essential
- Experience in workplace relations, employee relations, industrial relations or human resources advisory work.
- Exposure to employee relations matters such as performance management, misconduct, disciplinary processes, grievances, workplace complaints or employment documentation.
- Working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, including the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, modern awards and/or enterprise agreements.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and professional workplace correspondence.
- Ability to manage multiple matters while maintaining attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Sound judgement, professionalism and a willingness to seek guidance where required.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and support managers across the business.
- A genuine interest in developing a career in workplace relations and industrial relations.
Desirable
- Experience working in a unionised environment.
- Exposure to Fair Work Commission matters, industrial disputes, consultation processes or enterprise agreements.
- Experience within aviation, transport, logistics, manufacturing, retail, hospitality or another operational environment.
- Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Employment Law, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
