About the Team
KPMG's Cyber Security Office (CSO) plays a critical role in protecting our organisation, clients, and digital environments from evolving cyber threats. Our Security Operations Centre (SOC) is the frontline of cyber defence, providing continuous monitoring, threat detection, incident response, and security operations support across enterprise and client environments.
As part of a collaborative and highly skilled team, you will work alongside experienced cyber security professionals who are passionate about protecting critical systems, investigating security events, and strengthening cyber resilience. Your Opportunity
As a Security Operations Centre (SOC) Analyst (Level 1), you will be responsible for monitoring and analysing security events, supporting incident investigations, and helping maintain the effectiveness of our security operations capability. You will use industry-leading security tools to identify potential threats, investigate alerts, and support response activities under the guidance of senior analysts.
This role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for cyber security, a strong desire to learn, and the ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment. You will develop valuable technical, analytical, and investigative skills while contributing to the protection of critical systems and business operations.

Key Responsibilities
Security Monitoring & Alert Triage
- Monitor security alerts and events across enterprise networks, endpoints, cloud platforms, and security monitoring tools.
- Perform initial analysis and triage of security alerts to determine validity, severity, and required response actions.
- Escalate confirmed or suspicious security events to senior analysts in accordance with SOC procedures.
- Accurately document investigations, findings, and actions within incident management systems.
Incident Response Support
- Support security incident investigations through evidence collection, alert validation, and defined response activities.
- Follow established incident response playbooks and operational procedures.
- Assist with containment and remediation activities under the guidance of senior SOC team members.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration during active incidents.
Threat Analysis & Investigation
- Develop awareness of common cyber threats, attack techniques, and indicators of compromise.
- Use SIEM and security monitoring tools to identify anomalies, suspicious activity, and emerging threats.
- Support senior analysts with investigative and analytical activities.
Operational Excellence
- Adhere to SOC processes, workflows, and shift handover practices.
- Maintain and contribute to SOC documentation, incident records, and operational playbooks.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, alert quality, and documentation standards.
Learning & Collaboration
- Continuously develop cyber security knowledge through training and practical experience.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and lessons learned activities.
- Collaborate effectively with SOC team members, technology stakeholders, and broader cyber security teams.
- Support client and stakeholder engagements where the SOC provides managed or advisory security services.
Experience
- Demonstrated interest in cyber security and security operations.
- Foundational understanding of cyber security concepts, threats, vulnerabilities, and defensive controls.
- Basic working knowledge of SIEM platforms or security monitoring technologies.
- Ability to follow established processes and work effectively within an operational environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop technical and investigative capabilities.
- Previous experience in a Security Operations Centre, IT operations, service desk, technology support, or related environment.
- Exposure to cyber security monitoring, incident response, threat detection, or vulnerability management activities.
- Experience working within structured operational processes and escalation frameworks.

Qualifications
Relevant tertiary qualification in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Certifications
- CompTIA Security+
- Microsoft Security Fundamentals (SC-900)
- Microsoft Security Operations Analyst (SC-200)
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)
- SOC Analyst, SIEM Fundamentals, Incident Response, or related cyber security training
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and ongoing learning in cyber security.
