Cook – Malaysian / Southeast Asian Cuisine

KANTAN is a neighbourhood Malaysian restaurant in Fitzroy, and we're looking for an experienced cook to join our small kitchen team.
The role is mainly to support our existing kitchen team with food preparation and cooking, working closely with our kitchen lead and under the supervision of the Head Chef.
We're looking for someone who is reliable, organised and confident in a commercial kitchen. Experience with Malaysian, Indonesian or Southeast Asian cooking would be highly regarded, but strong practical cooking skills and a willingness to learn are equally important.
About the role
- Approx. 12–20 hours per week
- Permanent part-time position
- Flexible morning and/or afternoon shifts
- Food preparation and cooking
- Preparing ingredients, sauces, curries and other menu components
- Assisting with restaurant service and catering preparation
- Following recipes, portioning and kitchen systems
- Maintaining a clean, organised and food-safe kitchen
- Working closely with the kitchen team, particularly the sous chef to maintain consistency and quality
What we're looking for
- Previous experience working as a cook in a commercial kitchen
- Good food preparation and knife skills
- Comfortable working independently once trained
- Able to follow recipes and maintain consistency
- Reliable, organised and able to work well within a small team
- Familiarity with Malaysian or Southeast Asian cooking is highly regarded
- Formal qualifications are welcome but not essential. Practical kitchen experience and cooking ability are more important to us.
This role would suit someone looking for regular part-time hours in a small, supportive kitchen environment.
