As Financial Controller, you will be trusted to provide high-quality financial stewardship and partner with leaders across the organisation to support strong outcomes for our residents, clients, team members and communities.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller is a senior leadership role responsible for the effective financial management, governance and reporting of Sundale.
You will lead core finance functions, including statutory reporting, financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, financial controls, audit coordination, treasury, tax management, insurance renewal, liquidity management and executive reporting.
This role requires a commercially astute and technically strong finance leader who can provide accurate, timely and insightful financial advice while ensuring Sundale meets its statutory, regulatory and organisational obligations.
You will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Executive team, with regular exposure to Board-level reporting and strategic decision-making.
You will also lead and develop the Finance team and build strong working relationships with operational leaders across Sundale.
What You’ll Do
As Financial Controller, you will:
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting activities across Sundale.
- Oversee statutory financial reporting, including preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
- Manage monthly, half-yearly and annual financial close processes.
- Provide leadership and oversight of all statutory reporting and compliance activities, including QFR and ACFR reporting, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and supporting organisational governance and funding outcomes.
- Prepare high-quality management reporting packs for the Executive team and business unit leaders.
- Provide strategic financial analysis, insights and recommendations to support organisational performance.
- Lead internal financial controls, audit processes and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
- Manage tax compliance and reporting obligations, including FBT, BAS and other statutory tax requirements.
- Oversee treasury management, including cash flow forecasting, banking arrangements and minimum liquidity management.
- Manage fixed assets, capital expenditure processes and financial governance frameworks.
- Lead the annual insurance renewal process, ensuring appropriate coverage, compliance and engagement with relevant advisors and stakeholders.
- Partner effectively with auditors, bankers, consultants, insurers and other external advisors to support strong financial governance and organisational performance.
- Build trusted relationships with Finance and non-Finance stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
- Lead, mentor and develop the Finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, service excellence and continuous improvement.
- Contribute as an active member of Sundale’s leadership team, supporting broader organisational priorities and strategic initiatives.
About You
You are an accomplished finance professional with strong technical accounting capability, commercial judgement and the confidence to operate effectively in a senior leadership environment.
You bring the ability to balance detail with strategy, ensuring strong compliance and financial control while also providing practical insights that support business performance.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Extensive experience in financial control, statutory reporting, management reporting and financial governance.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience preparing and/or reviewing statutory financial reports.
- Demonstrated capability in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and performance reporting.
- Experience managing tax obligations, including BAS, FBT and related compliance requirements.
- Strong understanding of treasury, cash flow and liquidity management.
- Experience coordinating audit processes and working with external auditors and advisors.
- Demonstrated ability to manage insurance renewal processes or broader organisational compliance activities.
- Proven experience supporting the financial performance of a complex or diversified organisation.
- Strong leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring and developing team members.
- Demonstrated understanding of the funding, regulatory and operational frameworks that support aged care, Support at Home and retirement living services.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial leaders.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- A proactive, flexible and solutions-focused approach.
Required Qualifications or Certificates
- Tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting or a related discipline.
- CPA, CA/ICA or equivalent professional qualification.
- Significant experience in a senior finance leadership or financial control role, with demonstrated accountability for financial governance, reporting, compliance and team leadership, preferably within aged care, retirement living, community care or another complex service environment.
