Finance Business Analyst

The Role
A Finance Business Analyst provides analytical support and advisory services, acting as a bridge between the central finance team and specific business units to ensure budgets are managed effectively. The role places a strong emphasis on continuous process improvement, data analysis and automation, to drive financial performance and operational efficiency within the team and across the department.
Main accountabilities:

Performing data analysis and providing insights into financial performance to support decision making.

Working with group stakeholders, coordinating internal budget builds, funding allocations, monthly reporting for specific branches or projects using the department's systems.

Providing timely and accurate advice to business units to ensure compliance with the Financial Management Act 1994 and standing directions, as well as internal policies and procedures.

Identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives across budgeting, forecasting and reporting activities. Leveraging digital tools and automation to streamline manual workflows, increase efficiency and improve reporting capability (experience with emerging technologies, such as AI-driven solutions, is an advantage).
The Team
The position of Finance Business Analyst forms a part of the Finance, Investment & Procurement branch within the Corporate Services group.
The Corporate Services group consists of specialist functions including finance, investment and procurement, strategy, performance and governance, legal and legislation, people and culture, and information technology and workplace services. Finance, Investment and Procurement supports best practice resource allocation, budget and financial management and procurement across the department.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

Data Literacy: Ability to utilise advanced excel formulas, pivot tables and generation of data charts is required

Financial skills: Excellent financial skills including the ability to clearly articulate the financial implications of policy decisions and/or other transactions

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: If required, determines additional information needed to make informed decisions. Applies critical thinking and problem-solving concepts in the right context

Finance or accounting degree and/or professional qualification such as CA or CPA is highly desirable.
