Principal Estimator
We’re looking for a Principal Estimator to lead the development and delivery of high-quality cost estimates across major projects. Based in Perth, with hybrid working options available, you’ll guide estimating teams, support tender and proposal activity, and help shape estimating standards, tools and ways of working across the region.
As a Principal Estimator, you will be responsible for:
- Leading the preparation, review and presentation of cost estimates across project phases, from concept selection and FEED through to execution, commissioning and close-out.
- Providing estimating leadership, guidance and technical support to project teams, including development of appropriate work breakdown structures, estimating methodologies and basis of estimate reports.
- Reviewing scope, quantities, design criteria and cost data to identify gaps, risks, opportunities and appropriate levels of contingency.
- Driving consistency and quality in estimating deliverables, ensuring estimates align with Worley procedures, customer requirements and project objectives.
- Supporting tenders, proposals, studies and contract negotiations through robust estimating input, benchmarking and cost analysis.
- Contributing to the development of estimating standards, systems, benchmarking tools and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Leading, mentoring and developing estimating personnel, supporting capability, retention and career development across the region.
About you
You’ll bring strong estimating leadership experience, sound commercial judgement and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary project teams. You’ll be comfortable leading people, influencing stakeholders and delivering accurate, timely estimating outcomes in complex project environments.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Approximately 10–15 years’ experience across estimating, project controls, commercial or construction environments.
- A recognised degree in engineering, construction management or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Extensive technical and practical cost estimating capability, with the ability to plan, review and present estimating deliverables.
- Strong knowledge of estimating standards, cost engineering principles, local and international requirements, and relevant systems and tools.
- Proven leadership skills, including the ability to coach, mentor and develop estimating teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present information clearly and influence outcomes.
- A proactive, detail-focused approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities across projects of varying size and complexity.
- Experience in the use of the QUEST V2 / V3 estimating system.
- Fully versed in the AACEi classes of estimates and recommended practises.
