Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and analytically minded Geologist to join our team and contribute to the advancement of earth science knowledge and its practical applications. This role involves conducting field investigations, laboratory analyses, and technical reporting across areas such as mineral exploration, environmental assessment, and civil engineering support. The ideal candidate brings a strong scientific foundation, field experience, and the ability to interpret complex geological data. You will work collaboratively with engineers, scientists, and project stakeholders to deliver accurate and commercially valuable geological insights.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct preliminary and detailed surveys of mineral, petroleum, and natural gas deposits in collaboration with mining engineers, metallurgists, and other earth science professionals.
Investigate the composition, structure, and physical properties of the earth's crust to support resource exploration and land-use planning.
Collect, analyse, and interpret rock, soil, and sediment samples to identify geological formations and assess their commercial or environmental significance.
Study and date fossils and rock strata to develop understanding of the earth's evolutionary history and evaluate potential industrial or scientific applications.
Assess the effects of natural processes — including erosion, sedimentation, seismic activity, and volcanic events — on the formation and stability of the earth's surface and seabeds.
Prepare and supervise the production of detailed laboratory reports, technical assessments, and peer-reviewed scientific papers.
Develop and maintain geological maps, cross-sections, and 3D models using industry-standard GIS and modelling software.
Provide geological expertise to support civil engineering, environmental rehabilitation, and land restoration projects following mining or industrial activity.
Liaise with government bodies, regulatory authorities, and project stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
Monitor and evaluate geohazard risks, including subsidence, landslides, and groundwater contamination, recommending mitigation strategies as required.
Contribute to the planning and execution of drilling programmes, ensuring accurate logging, sampling, and data management throughout.
Mentor and guide junior geologists and field technicians, supporting a culture of professional development and scientific rigour.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in geological fieldwork, laboratory analysis, or resource exploration within an Australian or comparable context.
Proficiency in geological mapping, core logging, and the use of GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or MapInfo.
Strong understanding of stratigraphy, mineralogy, structural geology, and geochemical analysis techniques.
Experience with geological modelling software (e.g. Leapfrog, Micromine, or equivalent).
Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical data clearly in written reports and verbal presentations.
Solid understanding of relevant Australian standards, environmental legislation, and workplace health and safety requirements.
Strong organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in dynamic field and office environments.
Valid driver's licence and willingness to undertake regional or remote fieldwork as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Postgraduate qualifications (Master's or PhD) in Geology, Geoscience, or a specialised discipline such as hydrogeology or geotechnical engineering.
Professional membership with the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) or the Geological Society of Australia (GSA).
Experience in environmental impact assessments, mine rehabilitation planning, or contaminated land investigations.
Familiarity with resource estimation methodologies and compliance with JORC Code reporting standards.
Exposure to multidisciplinary project teams involving environmental scientists, geotechnical engineers, or indigenous land consultants.
First Aid certification and experience working under remote area or fly-in fly-out (FIFO) conditions.
