Disability Support Worker / Cleaner – Casual
Escape Assistance Solutions Pty Ltd
Newcastle / Lake Macquarie / Hunter Region
Minimum 6 hours of support per week, increasing to approximately 12 hours + separate cleaning shifts
Escape Assistance Solutions is seeking a reliable, friendly and engaging male Disability Support Worker / Cleaner to join our growing team.
Initially, the disability support component of this role will primarily involve working with one participant, with a minimum of 6 hours of support per week, generally across two 3-hour support shifts. These support hours are expected to build to approximately 12 hours per week.
The specific requirements outlined for this participant, including the need for a male support worker and an SUV or larger vehicle, relate to the individual needs and preferences of this participant.
As our disability support services continue to grow, additional support shifts with other participants will become available. Each participant has their own individual needs, goals, interests and support requirements, so the type of support, shift lengths, locations and requirements may differ between participants.
Cleaning shifts will also form part of this position. These will be separate shifts from disability support work and will not be performed during or included as part of participant support hours.
Disability Support Duties
For the initial participant, regular supports will include:
- Social and community participation
- Shopping and running errands
- Attending and participating in hobbies and interests
- Community outings and activities
- Providing companionship and positive social engagement
- Transporting the participant to and from activities
- Supporting the participant to build independence and remain actively involved in the community
Most regular support shifts for this participant will initially be approximately 3 hours at a time.
As the participant's supports increase, the role will eventually include some weekend work and occasional longer-distance outings. This may include trips to Sydney or Millfield to attend a temple, with some of these shifts potentially being 8 hours or longer.
As Escape Assistance Solutions continues to grow its disability support services, there will also be opportunities to work with additional participants. These supports may include different activities, hours and support needs depending on each participant's individual circumstances and goals.
Cleaning Shifts
In addition to disability support work, the successful applicant will also undertake separate cleaning shifts as part of their employment with Escape Assistance Solutions.
Cleaning work may include residential, NDIS and/or commercial cleaning depending on operational requirements and availability.
Cleaning shifts are completely separate from participant support shifts. You will not be expected to perform cleaning duties during a participant's social and community support hours.
These additional cleaning shifts provide the opportunity for more regular hours in addition to disability support hours.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be male – this is an initial requirement based on the individual needs and preferences of the participant this role will primarily support
- Hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Hold a current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or be willing and able to obtain one ASAP
- Hold a National Police Check issued within the last 12 months
- Hold a current Australian driver's licence
- Have a reliable, registered and insured SUV or larger vehicle – required for the initial participant
- Be comfortable using their vehicle to transport participants within the community
- Be available for a minimum of 6 hours of disability support per week, with availability to increase as support hours grow
- Be willing to undertake separate cleaning shifts
- Be willing to undertake occasional weekend and extended support shifts
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is dependable, patient, easy-going, adaptable and genuinely enjoys helping people participate in their community.
The successful applicant needs to be comfortable working one-on-one and building positive, professional and consistent relationships with participants.
As you may work with different participants over time, you will need to understand that every participant is different. We are looking for someone who can adapt their approach to each person's individual needs, preferences, interests and goals rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach to disability support.
You will also need to be willing to undertake cleaning work and take pride in completing cleaning duties to a high standard.
Reliability and consistency are extremely important. We want someone interested in ongoing employment who can grow with our disability support services as we take on additional participants.
