About the role
This is a full-time permanent position that will report to the General Manager - NSW/ACT. The Area Manager will be based in our Sydney Laboratory (currently at Melrose Park) and have the Laboratory Supervisors for the Sydney laboratories and the Orange laboratory reporting to them. This role will require regular travel to the laboratories in Sydney and Orange, as well as client sites when required. The Area Manager will be responsible for effectively managing the operations of the region, with a strong focus on deliverables within the region, ensuring work is delivered to a high-quality and efficient standard. The role is responsible for promoting safe work practices, implementing and managing SOP’s, maintaining the quality of outputs, and ensuring client satisfaction. It also involves leading the team to achieve performance and efficiency KPIs, while fostering a positive culture focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement. The role will include tools of trade, including a company vehicle.
The key responsibilities will require the successful candidate to:
- Drive technical and delivery standards of excellence,
- Support project delivery as required, take responsibility for interpreting, organising and executing large scale and complex projects within timeline and budget.
- Ensure client satisfaction levels: review, evaluate and monitor client satisfaction on project performance, and oversee remedial actions if required.
- Contribute to the development of winning proposals: ensure correct translation of client engagement, deliver presentations to clients, and progress opportunities to contract execution.
- Work with the regional laboratories to ensure testing is completed within regulatory bodies, specifications and standards.
- Work with the regional management team and technical leads to assess the market and develop/improve capability and service offering.
- Support the management of project pricing, resource planning, mobilisation and utilisation to meet performance objectives.
- Work with the General Manager to review, negotiate and manage commercial contracts on projects.
- Minimise project overruns and write offs.
- Effectively manage the assets of the region.
- Support a high performing team environment.
- Support compliance, quality management and continuous improvement.
Lead a safety culture and promote safe work practices.

What the successful candidate will look like:
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the below:
- 10+ years experience in field and laboratory constructions materials testing to relevant Australian standards.
- Business development and client engagement experience.
- Established network of industry contacts and credible marketing/industry knowledge within the region.
- NATA Signatory with a high level of competence and understanding of AS and RMS. standards and knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- An unwavering commitment to quality assurance and workplace safety.
- Excellent time management, organisation, and prioritisation skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks or deadlines.
- Has the ability to manage multiple tasks or deadlines.
- Has the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to achieve results, displaying a high level of self-motivation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other required systems (LIMS).
- Can work effectively under pressure, prioritising work to meet client demands.
Diploma in Laboratory Techniques is advantageous.
