Bundaberg State High School is one of the oldest state high schools in Queensland, having opened its doors in 1912 on the banks of the Burnett River. About the Role:
As the Community Education Counsellor (Identified), you will provide educational counselling, cultural guidance and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students across our school community. You will play an important role in strengthening engagement, participation and positive educational outcomes for students and families.
You will also support the broader school community by promoting cultural understanding, awareness and respectful partnerships.
Responsibilities:
Provide educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, Elders and community members.
Support and encourage student engagement, attendance, participation and wellbeing.
Assist in developing and delivering programs and activities that strengthen educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Promote productive partnerships between school, home and community.
Provide cultural advice and guidance to school staff and leadership.
Support cross-cultural understanding and awareness within the school community.
Connect students and families with external support services and community organisations where required.
Ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and cultural protocols are respected and embedded within school practices.
