Careers with Impact
More than one million Australians trust us with their money, and that trust shapes how we work every day. Our members sit at the centre of everything we do, guiding our decisions and the impact we strive to make.
We’re looking for people who are purpose-driven and accountable, who value inclusion and collaboration, and who are proactive in managing risk to protect our members’ long-term outcomes. In return, you’ll be part of an organisation where your work contributes to strong returns, real-world impact, and a culture that reflects the communities our members serve.
Bring your authentic and passionate self to this exceptional role #careerswithimpact
Take ownership of a significant slice of HESTA's defensive portfolio. As Investment Manager – Global Debt, Credit and Cash, you'll develop and implement the external manager investment strategy across global Fixed income, investment grade and alternative credit, and cash — working in close alignment with HESTA's investment beliefs and risk appetite to deliver the best possible risk-adjusted returns for members at the lowest achievable cost.
This is a role with genuine scope: you'll shape strategy, manage external manager relationships, and lead a team of analysts, all while contributing thought leadership to how these asset classes fit within HESTA's broader Total Portfolio Approach.
What you'll do
- Working closely with the General Manager - Defensives, develop the investment process, strategy, and risk management framework governing implementation of the Global Fixed Income, Investment Grade and Sub Investment Grade Alternative Credit and Cash portfolio complex
- Bring ideas to the portfolio design process that help maximise risk adjusted member outcomes across the total portfolio
- Oversee manager selection, configuration, monitoring, and disposal across these asset classes, exercising delegations consistent with HESTA's Governance Framework
- Lead the annual review of each asset class
- Monitor performance and risk across the portfolios, escalating opportunities and issues as they emerge
- Ensure RI considerations are built into manager selection and monitoring from the outset, consistent with HESTA's broader Impact strategy
- Lead a team of investment analysts — setting direction, coaching, and developing their capability
What you'll bring
- Detailed practical knowledge of the risk and return characteristics of Global Fixed Income, credit sub-sectors across the structure and ratings spectrum, and cash investments, and the different strategies, investment processes and philosophies used to enhance portfolio returns in a transparent, consistent and risk-controlled manner
- Strong background in fund manager research, selection, analysis, appointment and monitoring
- Comfortable with financial modelling for investment analysis
- Quantitative rigour and sound qualitative judgement
- Led a team of analysts and held a role where people leadership was a core responsibility
- Experience with Simcorp Dimension, Bloomberg, or MSCI Barra One is a plus, though not essential
