About the role
WHG Technologies is seeking an experienced Technician / Welder to join our installation and service team.
The role is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of vehicle tracking devices, camera systems, weighing equipment and associated fleet technology across heavy vehicles, trailers, plant and other machinery.
Duties include:
- Install vehicle tracking devices, camera systems, weighing equipment and associated fleet technology.
- Carry out repairs and maintenance of installed equipment.
- Study heavy vehicles, trailers, plant and machinery specifications to determine the correct installation process, component placement and any modification requirements.
- Cut and shape metal brackets and other components using plasma cutters, guillotines, grinders and other metal fabrication equipment, ensuring correct measurements and fit.
- Manufacture, position and fit brackets and mounting components to vehicles and machinery, using appropriate welding techniques and ensuring installations meet required standards.
- Install cameras, tracking devices and other electronic equipment, modifying or adjusting mounting arrangements where required.
- Hard-wire devices and associated electrical components where required.
- Manufacture and modify customised brackets, mounting points and support components for specialised installations.
- Install camera and security systems at client premises where required, including fabrication and installation of appropriate mounting systems.
- Undertake trailer modifications and upgrades, including welding and fabrication work associated with suspension, tracking devices, cameras, weighing systems and motion detection equipment.
- Repair and maintain installed equipment, including inspecting and replacing brackets, mounting points and metal support components where required.
- Complete installation and repair work to a high standard while maintaining a safe and organised working environment.
Skills and Qualifications
- Trade qualification as a Welder / Metal Fabricator, or a minimum of three years' relevant industry experience.
- Experience in welding, metal fabrication and manufacturing customised brackets or components.
- Experience installing equipment or accessories into vehicles, trailers, plant or machinery.
- Knowledge and practical experience in mechanical fitting.
- Experience with automotive or equipment wiring and hard-wired device installation.
- Ability to read vehicle and equipment specifications and determine appropriate installation and mounting methods.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a technical installation team.
Experience working with heavy commercial vehicles, trailers, fleet technology, telematics, cameras or vehicle accessories would be highly regarded.

Remuneration for this role will be based on qualifications, knowledge and enthusiasm, reflective of the candidate’s experience.

Pay: $70,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
