What you will do as the Senior User Experience (UX) Designer
We are looking for a designer who combines deep UX expertise with curiosity, initiative and the ability to identify and craft opportunities across all parts of the project lifecycle. The role requires strong user advocacy, excellent communication skills, empathy, strategic thinking, and a commitment to agile and human-centred design principles and practices.
As a Senior User Experience (UX) Designer, you will:
- Lead end-to-end human-centred design activities, including user research, discovery, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing and final design delivery.
- Champion user needs and influence product direction by identifying opportunities, uncovering insights and translating complex problems into simple, intuitive experiences.
- Provide expert advice and thought leadership on user experience, accessibility, usability, service design and emerging design practices.
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while building trusted stakeholder relationships and delivering high-quality outcomes.
About you
In order to succeed in the role, you will have:
- Human-Centred Design (HCD) & UX Expertise: Demonstrated experience leading user research, discovery, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing and the delivery of user-centred digital products.
- Strategic Thinking & Initiative: Ability to identify opportunities, challenge assumptions, navigate ambiguity and independently drive meaningful improvements that create measurable impact.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Proven ability to build strong relationships, influence decision-making and work effectively with users, product owners, developers and senior stakeholders.
- Accessibility & Design Standards: Experience applying WCAG accessibility standards, usability best practices and design systems to create inclusive, compliant and high-quality user experiences.
- Project & Workload Management: Ability to manage competing priorities, shifting requirements and multiple workstreams while maintaining quality and delivery outcomes.
The preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Baseline level. For information about the security clearance process, please refer to the AGSVA website.
The following job specific criteria are also highly desirable:
- Experience with design tools such as Figma and developing design systems.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications, at least 3 years’ experience and/or experience working within the APS.
