As the High Voltage (HV) Maintenance Tech Lead at IREN, you will you will play a central role in sustaining reliable data centre operations across our Australian sites. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will generate ideas, communicate technical recommendations to senior management, and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians – helping to shape the future of our high-voltage electrical infrastructure.

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent trade qualification (e.g. Electrical Fitter/Mechanic) with extensive demonstrated experience in high-voltage operations and maintenance.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience in operations and maintenance of high-voltage substations and medium-voltage distribution in an electrical utility or heavy industrial environment.
- Hold, or be eligible to hold, a current HV Switching Licence / Authorisation in accordance with the relevant Australian state regulations (e.g. NSW/QLD Electrical Safety Act and associated codes of practice).
- Strong knowledge of Protection and Control systems as applied to high-voltage substations and apparatus, including transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, and associated equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical control diagrams and schematics; competent in root cause analysis and in-depth technical investigations.
- Sound understanding of relevant Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS 2067, AS 1243) and applicable workplace health and safety obligations under state WHS/OHS legislation.
- Familiarity with Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Permits to Work (PTW), and isolation and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures in compliance with Australian safety frameworks.
- Comfortable working hands-on alongside tradespeople, supervisors, and other technical personnel on site when required.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and lead without direct authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences from junior site staff to senior leadership.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to deliver high-quality work with limited direction in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Able to manage ambiguity, limited resources, and changing priorities effectively.
- Willingness to work outside standard business hours when required to support key project milestones or respond to system events.
- Proficient in technical software tools used for electrical engineering tasks (e.g. ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent).
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the High Voltage (HV) Maintenance Tech Lead
- Support project development activities by attending design meetings and collaborating with site staff, corporate teams, and external engineering partners.
- Review and validate drawings and technical documentation from consultants, equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, and commissioning agents, acting as the technical Owner’s representative.
- Lead and support construction, installation, and commissioning activities in the high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical space.
- Lead technically complex electrical engineering tasks for the site operations and maintenance team, seeing them through to completion.
- Monitor system operations from an electrical perspective, ensuring the site operates within allowable parameters and to the highest degree of reliability and utilisation.
- Develop technical documentation including plans, checklists, specifications, reports, procedures, and standards that support engineering functions from design through to operations.
- Manage site technical documentation (drawings, equipment manuals), ensuring completeness, accuracy, and availability.
- Perform detailed analysis and calculations to ensure reliable operations and determine current and future system capacity and real-time limitations.
- Define equipment specifications and suitable spare parts programmes for electrical equipment.
- Provide second-level technical troubleshooting support to site staff during system events.
- Act as project manager when requested, ensuring scope, cost, and schedule targets are met.
- Identify and drive enhancements and corrective actions through to completion.
- Coach and provide feedback to site staff on high-voltage electrical matters.
