About the role:
This position is a Fixed-Term, Full-time role from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2029.
The Senior Policy Adviser will contribute to and lead policy and legislative reform projects relating the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) for 16 regulated health professions. The Victorian Department of Health is funded through the Health Chief Executive Forum (HCEF) to perform the NRAS national policy lead function on behalf of all jurisdictions in relation to reforms to the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law. The team also performs Secretariat functions for the Legislation Committee, which undertakes work on behalf of the Health Workforce Taskforce (HWT), HCEF and the Health Ministers Meeting (HMM).
Reporting to the Principal Policy Adviser, the Senior Policy Adviser will assist in national consultation and policy development and analysis in collaboration other jurisdictions and national bodies such as the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra). The Senior Policy Adviser will contribute to the preparation of advice to department executives and ministers on regulatory practice issues at national and state levels, and contribute to regulatory policy advice and reform projects across the department's portfolios to ensure that reform design and implementation is optimal, consistent, and aligned with strategic and policy priorities.

About you:

Contribute to and lead policy and legislative reform projects relating to the NRAS.

Monitor and report on high priority issues, risks and trends and prepare and present reports, ministerial briefs, and Cabinet submissions.

Represent the department on key stakeholder committees and groups concerned with achieving government and departmental objectives and contribute to relevant committee and governance processes.

Support the team in appropriate record management and keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
Qualification/Specialist Expertise

A tertiary qualification in fields related to public policy, regulation, health, law or other relevant fields would be desirable.

Knowledge of or experience in any of the following would be desirable:
- policy issues relating to health practitioner regulation, the NRAS or other national regulatory schemes
-
legislative and regulatory reform
-
intergovernmental relations.
