In this role, you'll:
Help drive culturally informed change across Transport for NSW. You’ll turn community and cross-agency reform insights into practical policy and program advice, supported by strong research and analysis. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you will develop submissions, policy material, resources and guidance that support fair, responsive outcomes for Aboriginal customers, businesses and communities.
The Aboriginal Strategy Advisor will also be responsible for:
- Providing advice, research, analysis and recommendations, and preparing documentation to support culturally informed reform.
- Leading and participating in targeted consultations with internal teams, peak bodies and Aboriginal stakeholders to gather and organise insights.
- Working collaboratively with specialist teams across Transport to deliver culturally responsive and equitable outcomes for Aboriginal passengers and communities.
- Representing Transport for NSW in committees and working groups, including external advisory forums.
- Translating Aboriginal community insights, research and stakeholder feedback into practical policy options, implementation pathways and risk considerations.
- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on Aboriginal focused reforms, and developing tools and guidance that build internal capability in culturally informed policy design.
This is an ongoing full-time position which can be based in Sydney, Newcastle, Grafton, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga or Wollongong.
This role can be filled through remote working and can be based anywhere in New South Wales. The role requires in person attendance on particular days of the week at your local TfNSW office.
This is an Aboriginal-identified role as it involves the development and delivery of services and programs which impact or require liaison with Aboriginal people and/or communities. About you
You are an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
You have tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
You have a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures in NSW. You value community led approaches and know the key reform frameworks, including Closing the Gap and NSW Government Aboriginal policies. You work in a culturally safe and respectful way.
You are skilled in analysing policy, researching issues and turning complex information into clear insights. You can prepare options papers, briefs and submissions using both qualitative and quantitative evidence.
You are confident working with Aboriginal stakeholders and cross functional teams. You enjoy co designing solutions and turning community insights into practical policy and program recommendations.
You’re an excellent communicator who can explain complex issues clearly and influence decision makers. You adapt your style to suit different audiences.
You are a strong writer and problem solver with solid research skills. You think critically, get to the root cause of issues, adapt quickly and bring an optimistic, solutions focused mindset.
