About the Role:
This is a full-time position offering an annual salary of $77,000 – $82,000 plus superannuation, based in Australia. The role presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced Bakerto work within a professional bakery operation contributing to bakery production, food quality management, and day-to-day bakery activities. The Baker will be responsible for preparing and baking a range of breads, cakes, pastries, and bakery products in accordance with business recipes and quality standards while ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements. Remarkably, the Baker must create new products based on seasonal produce, customer’s special orders. The position also involves stock control, ingredient preparation, production scheduling, and maintaining consistency across bakery operations.
Responsibilities
Ingredient Preparation & Dough Production
- Check the quality and freshness of raw materials and ingredients before production activities commence.
- Weigh and measure baking ingredients accurately according to recipes and production specifications.
- Mix ingredients to form doughs, batters, fillings, and bakery products using commercial mixers or manual preparation methods as required.
- Knead, mature, cut, mould, shape, and prepare doughs and pastry goods in accordance with established recipes and bakery procedures.
- Prepare pastry fillings and bakery components according to product specifications and quality standards.
- Prepare bakery products in accordance with production schedules, recipes, and operational requirements.
Baking Operations & Machinery Handling
- Operate bakery equipment and machinery used to roll, knead, shape, and mould dough, slice bread, cut biscuits, and support bakery production processes.
- Coordinate bakery production activities including forming, loading, baking, unloading, de-panning, cooling, and handling batches of bread, rolls, pastries, cakes, and bakery products.
- Monitor oven temperatures, baking conditions, and product appearance to determine baking times and maintain product quality standards.
- Monitor proofing, baking processes, and production timelines to ensure consistency, efficiency, and product quality.
Product Finishing & Presentation
- Decorate, garnish, glaze, and finish baked goods including buns, pastries, cakes, and bakery products according to presentation requirements and business standards.
- Apply cream, icing, and decorative finishes to cakes and bakery products to ensure product quality and presentation consistency.
- Ensure bakery products maintain consistency in taste, texture, appearance, and overall quality prior to sale or display.
Inventory Management & Supply Control
- Order baking ingredients, raw materials, and bakery supplies in accordance with operational requirements.
- Maintain inventory levels and oversee stock rotation and storage procedures to minimise wastage and maintain ingredient quality.
- Monitor ingredient usage and support inventory control initiatives to improve operational efficiency and cost management.
Food Safety, Hygiene & Compliance
- Check the cleanliness of bakery equipment, production areas, and operational premises before production runs to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and hygiene regulations.
- Empty, clean, sanitise, and grease baking trays, tins, ovens, and bakery equipment to maintain operational readiness and food safety compliance.
- Maintain bakery equipment, production areas, and workstations in a clean, safe, and organised condition before, during, and after production activities.
- Ensure bakery operations comply with food safety regulations, workplace health and safety requirements, hygiene standards, and operational procedures.
Customer Service & Operational Support
- Take customer orders and process payments where required in accordance with business procedures.
- Work collaboratively with bakery staff and management to support efficient bakery operations and customer satisfaction outcomes.
- Assist with day-to-day bakery activities to support production targets and operational objectives. Create new products based on seasonal produce, customer’s special order.
Job Requirements
- Relevant qualification equivalent to an Australian Certificate III in Baking.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant full-time work experience as a Baker or closely related role.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and bake breads, pastries, cakes, and bakery products to a professional standard.
- Strong understanding of bakery production techniques and food safety practices.
- Experience operating commercial bakery equipment and production systems.
- Knowledge of inventory control, ingredient management, and wastage minimization practices.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced commercial bakery environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
