Howden Contracting is an established earthmoving and civil contracting business based locally in Meekatharra, Western Australia. We provide civil earthworks, machinery hire, and heavy cartage services across the regional outback.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, practical Heavy Combination (HC) Truck Driver and Machine Operator who enjoys outback community living and hands-on regional work.
This is a varied, ongoing role involving heavy haulage, water cart operation, civil earthworks, and general plant operation on local projects.
Key Responsibilities
Safe operation and driving of Heavy Combination (HC) trucks, including water carts and floaters.
Operating civil earthmoving machinery (e.g., loaders, excavators/diggers).
Performing routine daily vehicle checks and basic mechanical maintenance.
Assisting with general civil earthworks, site prep, and labour tasks as required.
Maintaining strict compliance with site safety protocols, fatigue management, and drug/alcohol policies.
Requirements & Skills
Licence: Valid Heavy Combination (HC) Driver’s Licence (Manual) or higher.
Experience: Proven track record driving heavy vehicle combinations and operating civil earthmoving equipment (loader/excavator experience preferred).
Location Commitment: Must reside in Meekatharra or be ready to relocate immediately upon hire (FIFO applicants will not be considered).
Fit for Work: Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Attributes: Strong work ethic, practical mechanical mindset, and reliability in a remote working environment.
