WSP’s Ecology team in Australia is a well‑established and industry‑leading part of our business, with a strong presence across the East Coast and an expanding international footprint. In Western Australia, we have been deliberately investing in building our Ecology capability and capacity, and we see significant opportunity for continued growth. This growth is a key strategic priority—complementing and strengthening the quality of our national offering.
We are now seeking a Technical Executive to lead our WA team and help shape and accelerate this growth. In this role, you will leverage the depth of our national expertise while building a high‑quality, locally grounded team. You will drive success in the pursuit and delivery of major projects, grow key client relationships and portfolios, and foster technical excellence across the team—ultimately strengthening our offering and enhancing our overall market position.
As a Technical Executive – Ecology you will:
- Oversee the strategy, pursuit, management and delivery of major projects.
- Foster Technical Excellence within WSP’s Ecology Business Unit.
- Support the delivery of a successful Expertise/Technical Excellence strategy and Technical Training programs integrated with the national strategy.
- Leading the growth of new client relationships and portfolios in strategic focus areas across the WA market, aligned with WSP strategic growth areas, in particular: -
- Mining, resources and government clients in WA
- Lead and role model a zero harm HSE culture, ensuring all safety and environmental obligations are met.
- Support strategic technical hiring and workforce planning to build depth and resilience across the team.
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications highly regarded).
- 15–20+ years’ experience in ecology, with a strong track record of technical delivery in complex environments.
- Proven ability to build, lead and develop high-performing teams, with a strong understanding of people, culture, and capability growth.
- Demonstrated experience in business strategy, market growth and the attraction, development and retention of technical talent.
- Strong commercial and operational acumen, with experience leading team operations including workforce planning, resourcing, performance management and financial oversight. Able to work effectively with cross-business functions and provide clear reporting and business intelligence to inform strategic decision-making.
- A commitment to technical excellence, with a focus on quality assurance, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Experience partnering with sector leads and client relationship managers to develop and deliver market strategies that drive growth and enhance client outcomes.
- Strong capability in managing risk across large, complex or high-profile projects.
- A passion for mentoring and developing others, with a track record of building technical capability and sharing knowledge across teams.
- Excellent communication, influencing and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.
