About the role
The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), part of Melbourne Health, is a world-class teaching hospital and one of Victoria’s largest Trauma Centres. Our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides care for critically ill patients across a range of specialties, including Cardio-thoracic, Trauma, Neurosurgical and Medical-Surgical services. With 42 beds, the ICU also supports patients requiring admission from The Royal Women’s Hospital and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
We are seeking an ICU Ward Clerk to provide high-quality administrative and clerical support within the Intensive Care Unit. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be a key point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff, supporting the coordination of patient admissions, discharges and transfers while ensuring accurate maintenance of patient records and effective day-to-day operations.
Key Accountabilities
Provide administrative and clerical support to the Intensive Care Unit, including maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.
Be first point of contact for patients, visitors and staff, providing professional and patient-focused service.
Support the coordination of patient admissions, discharges and transfers in collaboration with the NUM, Access Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Consultants and wider multidisciplinary team.
Liaise effectively with nursing, medical, support and ancillary teams, hospital departments, patients and their families/significant others.
Undertake general reception, administrative and clerical duties to support the efficient operation of the ICU.
About You
Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
Relevant clerical/administrative experience with sound computer skills, ideally with basic medical terminology
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to providing a positive patient and visitor experience
Ability to prioritise tasks, use initiative and work effectively in a busy environment
Ability to follow direction, demonstrate flexibility and reliability within a rotating roster
Willingness to learn and support ongoing development
